Got out for a run over the weekend with some fellow CT4WD'ers in the Crowsnest Pass. We tried a couple trails I haven't yet ran and it was good to see some new terrain. After part of our group had to head back home to Calgary, "Victor" and myself thought we woudl continue the trend and do some more exploring. All in all, it was an epic day on the trails and our wheel bearings are what suffered most, with all of the water crossings. Pretty cool crossing raging creeks during spring runoff, we both briefly had water almost up to the door handles in a couple spots! Enjoy the pics:

Your photography skills are stellar. I wish I could hit a run w/you guys and have you snap just a couple shots of my rig in action. Every trip report you post in this thread looks just like you said...

Hey! Anytime you decide to make it an overlanding vacation up to our neck of the woods, you've got a group to go trail driving with!
We had a camped the night before and our mission 6/17/12 was to scout a particular trail, and right about 3pm we had discovered the trail may be a no go as it's a snow mogul-paint scratching kind of trail. Once the boys retreated to the comfort of their homes, us 3rd'geners decided "Hey, we don't want to end the party just yet..." That led us to discover some one the most fantastic camping spots as you've seen in the pictures! What made it super awesome was that we explored every trail we saw... I was prepared to call in sick today if I needed to... haha!

I'd be interested to discuss trails with you southern AB guys sometime. I do a the odd trip dual sporting down there and could probably share some info. Depending on the road we can cover distance pretty quick, but we are also forced to turn around in other conditions, like snow, and deep water. Sadly, it's just not worth sinking a bike.
This year I hope to explore more in the East Kootney's and northern States if I can. It appears many of the roads near Nelson don't form loops or passages. I just love that area so much though!

Thanks man, I really appreciate the compliments. Photography is something I've been doing since I was 15 and I just love getting out and getting the opportunity to polish my skills in a outdoor environment. I still need lots of improvement....
I am sure we will meet up one day, as I do plan to do some overlanding and expedition style trips in the next few years down in your part of the country. I'll make sure we get some cool shots of your rig!

Yah, you have my number. Anytime you want to head out let me know. I actually grew up in Nelson and plan on doing some wheeling out that way this summer as well!

Thanks for the invitation, Victor. Trips like you described are a blast, just going where the road takes you and overcoming the challenges along the way.
There's always room for improvement, but you've definitely got skills. Let's make it happen on the meet up.

I went wheeling for the CT4WD June Official Run over the weekend. The weather did not really cooperate and therefore I have a limited number of photos to show off the trails/trucks/scenery. It was VERY wet all weekend and we dipped into the clouds on a number of occasions. Still a ton of fun to meet some new people and see some new trucks. A night spent in the woods in the 4Runner beats a night spent at home any day, regardless of the weather!
At least the fog made for some cool B&W photos.

Just before we were about to all head home, a man came and asked us for help recovering his overturned quad from the river. After a short 7km blast on the Dutch Creek - Atlas Creek connecter, we found his vehicle overturned and pinned under a log jam. Apparently it had been stuck overnight. The man stated that as he attempted a river crossing, it simply got too deep and swept him away. I'm not sure why he left it overnight, but he also mentioned the water had risen several feet overnight due to the HUGE amount of rain we had. We rigged up a snatch block to the front of one of the Tacoma's in order to get a better angle at the pull. We reeled the quad in from under the raging current and had it back on the river bank in quick time. It was a pretty cool recovery to watch but it sucks for the man and his new ATV. I should have a video of the "ordeal" in time.
