lol so do I, so do it... I had a chance to go wheeling last weekend but the truck was down and still is sorta. I need time and a heated garage to get some must needed parts put on.... I feel like I've let you all down, especially considering the 3 ft of snow they just got in the mountains where I normally wheel!

I will post these here though, a re-post, I know but I'm not sure why I posted these in my build thread anyway. They are destined for this place.

Got out wheeling yesterday! Didn't take as many photos as I usually do... I guess I was just taking in the whole experience more as I dont get to the mountains as much as I used to. Funny how you appreciate the finer things so much more once your circumstances change. It was just good to smell the fresh air and be out with some friends. Despite the lack of flex shots, the trail was actually fairly technical. About 10" of fresh snow with an icey layer underneath that kept us cringing everytime we were off camber. I nearly slid into several trees. The Kevlars were wicked in the snow though, no complaints. I had them aired down to 8 psi most of the day which is probably as low as I will go until I am on beadlocks, and even then, I wouldnt air down this low in the summer on dry terrain. My observations are that the 80 is definitely LARGER than the 4Runner but it's quote a bit more comfortable offroad especially in the off-camber sections. It doest lean near as much as the 4Runner. It's a tank, you can feel all that weight all the time, the truck has a mind of it's own sometimes when things get slippery where the 4Runner was for sure more agile, despite the turning radius being way better in the 80.

EDIT: I just thought I would share something I forgot to mention. After and during this trail everyone was mentioning how tight and overgrown it was, and how their trucks were getting scratched. I laughed.... at them. LineX doesnt get scratched ;) hahaha

Its all good. I know the feeling, I have Icons, Superflex and billies, sliders, and a front bumper all waiting to go on :( It's to cold to do any of it. Good news is, my buddy works at a Lexus dealership and we can get in after hours and use the lift... and tools... all of them.... For freeeeee :bounce:

EDIT: PS. BEAUTIFUL scenery. I can't wait to get out snow wheeling here in Utah.

Yah good thing no one knows where my garage is. It would be a pretty good score! My garage literally looks like the showroom for an offroad store. haha But it would be way better if my truck looked like a showcase for an offroad store, and my garage was empty.

Yah LineX is the original "bedliner". Mine has the fancy top coat on it though that makes it more fade resistant and glossy compared to the regular truck bed coatings. Otherwise it's the same shiet.

I've been subscribed since your trip through the southern rockies last year! I just spent some time looking at your newest pics and I'm envious! I understood you were moving on to an LX450... I'm interested in your thoughts in your decision to move away from the 4runner? Did you end up selling the "Dirt Duster" or is it in the garage? That truck was a work of art!!!!

Cool! How high are you going to go with it? Seeing as how your rig is black I think it will look great. I have so many people at first glance tell me they think the lower half of the truck is "matte black". Its a pretty striking appearance in person and, IMO, looks really badass. I don't think it works on all/every vehicle but with the black truck you cant go wrong! GL.

Thanks Jared! In all honesty I dont get out as much as I'd like and I'm still dying to just get out there and shoot more than just the 4x4's. My job has had me working away from home prety much solid for the last several months. Good news is that I got a job offer recently to move into the office in Calgary. I'll be starting on Monday! Excited to get some of my life back and get out shooting more in general. Also planning on picking up a Tokina 16-28 f/2.8 over Christmas. I think the wide angle is gunna be great for all the Landscape stuff and it should be a wicked star lens too!

You posted a few photos on flickr a little while ago from a surfing trip, one in particular with a surfboard on a bench, such an awesome shot!

The Dirt Duster was sold last spring and now resides out in Invermere, BC. It was a tough decision to let it go but my LX450 kind of fell in my lap and I have always wanted an 80 series. I was looking for more space and wanted a new and clean start for a build. My LX450 was imported from Arizona 3 years before I purchased it and was owned by a friend of mine (you can actually see my LX450 wheeling with my 4Runner in the earlier pages of this thread!). The chance to own a well maintained, completely rust free, low mileage 80-series was just too much to bear. I told the owner I couldn't buy it until the 4Runner sold and I sold the 4Runner for full asking price a week after I listed it (I actually kinda had a bidding war on it... haha). The rest is history!

This isn't really the place to discuss this but I'll threadjack my own thread if I want to! I was talking with a good buddy of mine about where the Duster would be today if I hadn't sold it, and it was actually kind of sad. No doubt there would have been 35's, f/r air lockers by now.... the LX450 has a lot of catching up to do still!

At least the 4runner stayed relatively local, 3.5hrs from Calgary! My wife and I pass through Invermere, usually once a year--- beautiful country! At least with the Dirt Duster living in Invermere, I'm sure it will get the use it was built for! I'm really looking forward to seeing your new ride transformed into a truck even more awesome than the 4runner! As far as potential is concerned, the '80' is probably a more rugged starting point than the 3rd gen. and it is really no decision if one is building an off road vehicle--- we definitely live in the right part of the country to take advantage of the Rocky mountains and endless trails!!
I'm lucky enough to have the distinction of working part of the time in rural and mountainous communities (my work truck is an AWD 2500 GMC van) which allows me to explore places to come back to with the family, and talk to people who have local knowledge!

It's going to be alot like yours, hopefully it'll turn out well since the body lines don't exactly line up. It'll be alot like this only the break wont be there, where the back body line tapers down I'm going to keep it at the same height so it will line up with where the body line starts in the front


heres a better idea of the line, in this picture it's higher than I'd like it to be but imagine a happy medium between ^that one and this one and thats what it'll be..

New paint in the budget, I need some suggestions

The runner is going to undergo alot this winter, since I hit the tree she'll get a face lift, which is a perfect excuse to do a satoshi. luckily all the damage was cosmetic and I'm still on my folks insurance so that's nice. secondly I'll be painting/bedlining it which will be nice, the clear coat on my hood has been stripping off since I bought it 5 years ago. And I scooped one of the new addicted bumpers so yay me. building these things never goes as planned haha the money going towards these mods was supposed to go to a locker....oh well it'll come in time. sorry to spam your thread haha

I'm not sure how I missed this thread but I'm so glad I found it. I just went through the whole thing and I think it's one of the best threads on here. Really inspirational. I'm really looking forward to doing some exploring as soon as my broken foot heals. :crutch:

Thanks man! Glad that others get enjoyment out of it. If only my job would loosen the noose an let me get out a little more nowadays! haha

I see your in Kalispell, we're practically neighbours. I'd love to do some wheeling/exploring down in that area.
 
Every time I see new posts here, I get all excited in ways I just can't quite decide.... But then I see no pics... Giving me blue balls here man!:crazy:
