Wow.... I'm amazed by how well that turn out with a rattle can even if you got the correct paint from Napa. That looks really good how it turned out, well done sir.... well done....
I've been wanting to color match my fender flares and bumpers, as well as the bottom of the doors on my 4runner. I like the tan contrast, but it makes it super difficult to find wheels that look good when you have a vehicle with too much going on. I think I might look into this Napa color matched paint. I've thought about doing the bed liner, but I think it'll look too cheezy. My dad has a Graco paint pump+gun combination so buying a bucket of Napa color matched paint might be a good idea now.

Alright, so the previous owner of my 4runner somehow snapped the antenna off like 6 inches above where it comes out of the fender. It's sharp enough that my dad cut himself on it, but I really don't feel like spending all that time and money for a new one, when I still get a pretty good signal with the old one. That being said, I've never seen the power antenna in action. Is there a way to make it retract while the vehicle is running? My local Toyota expert says they pop up when the vehicle is turned on, is there a way to override that? Thanks.

Do me a favor and don't quote massive posts just to ad a small question to the end, thanks.
The antennas go up and down depending on if the radio has power. one of those ways is if the truck is turned on, also if you manually turn the radio off by pressing the volume button.
You can add a switch to the power line going to the radio to control that.

On another note, have you been playing w/that ham radio at all? I'm curious to hear how well it works.

I think I have been playing with the mount more than I have the radio, haha its so fun.
I have listened in a few times, found a frequency where a few guys in Colorado were talking to another couple of guys in Texas. And another time a lady from Las cruces was talking to someone in carlsbad. I'm working up the courage to talk still, haha.

Broken Driveshaft, snapped shocks, bent links, etc..

Had a little trouble lately..

If you had seen that thread in the past two weeks, then you already now what happened.
But, for those that haven't I'll give a quick recap..
Went offroading almost two weeks ago and broke my drive shaft, shocks, rear upper links, and a few other little things. For a description of the events, read the linked thread.
Before anyone mentions it, yes they are repairable. I dont want to run with mended shock shafts though, I am giving them to my friend to use on his Jet Ski Trailer.

The broken parts list is as follows:
-Rear Driveshaft
-Rear shocks (both)
-Rear Upper control arms
Dirtco let me have his old stock links to act as temporary ones while I build a set of HD links (THANKS!!). I decided to use this chance to upgrade my shocks to Bilstein 5150s w/ Reservoir. I bought those from toytec lifts.
For the drive shaft, I used a local company called 'Albuquerque Driveshaft and Axle'.
Long story short the rear U-joint was toast with a sheared zerk, the outer slip and the spline shaft inside (excuse my ignorance of the terminology) were all damaged. So I had him build me a new lengthened driveshaft for the lift. The only part that was reused was the double-cardigan up front.
The total was a very reasonable $240. I would highly recommend him in to anyone in the Abq area. Robert is an awesome dude, showed me around his shop, met his super friendly pit bull, all around cool dude.
After everything was in, I went for a little test drive around the neighborhood. Everything worked properly, it was good to hear that supercharger whine again . The rear new 5150s are so AWESOME!! I am 100% happy I decided to upgrade, its a very noticeable change over the 5125s. The front feels so barbaric in comparison, coilovers are high on the list now.
Still to do is build the new HD rear links.
For those I am going to use 2" DOM .120 wall sleeves with poly bushings on both ends and 1.25" OD .083 wall DOM 4130 arm. Its gonna be super beef!

Restored Cowl piece
Today I also did a few little touch ups on the 4runner.
One of them was to remove and repaint the Cowl piece in front of the windshield.
I used RonMAIDEN's write up for it.

A few notes about the write up,
-There are 6 screws holding it on, not 5.
-The nut that holds on the wiper arms is a 12mm, not a 13mm.
-Those wiper arms did NOT want to come off, They were seized on there or something. It took some elbow grease to get them to slide off that bolt.
For paint, I used Duplicor's Trim Paint, it is a durable satin black finish.

What separates the 5150s from the 5125s besides the reservoir, or even the 5100? Is it like a hierarchy system?

Not yet. Maybe be the end of the week. But I will be doing some welding and stuff up there.
Different valving, and the resi allows for crossflow. The 5150 is designed for high speed stuff and it absorbs bumps a lot better. At low speeds there is not very much of a difference between 5125 and 5150.
They are a good value. The quality of ride compared to much more expensive shocks like fox and Icon is not worth it for those ones. Atleast IMO.
I got another one and its staying on, lol. It was too much silver up front without a little black to mix things up.

+2 for the Billy 5150's! I love mine and am glad I spent the extra to get them. Sorry to hear all that stuff broke but hey, whenever anything breaks, what do we do? Replace it with bigger and better stuff! so it ain't so bad after all
