Ripcord's 2002 Sport Ed. Version 2.0

Quoted the whole post to ask about the last picture

Glad to see you making progress on the new truck man.
Me too!

Nice write-up as always. That fuse block makes wiring so clean!
My favorite mod so far, probably will be for a while. It makes things so easy and clean.

Looks like I need to come over and take lessons in wiring... :brick:
Anytime man. If you have a project in mind just let me know, I will help.

Great information and photos in this thread. I see your photog skills. Two off camera flash with a modifier(s)?
Uhh.. yeah. The flashers are made by "It was a sunny day" and "I parked in said sunlight"

Thanks for the compliment though!

Hood Struts

|August 13, 2015|

I picked up some Redline Tuning hood struts in a group buy recently, they are awesome!

What/Why:
Hood struts are on most modern cars, except the cheap ones. They help by removing the need for the hood prop stick and make cool sounds when they move.

Parts/Cost:
$76.46: Redline tuning PLUS 1996-2002 4Runner hood struts (normally $89)

Tools:
-Rivet gun with 3/16" fitting
-Drill with 3/16" or #11 drill bit
-5/16 socket
-Masking tape
-tape measure
-Sharpie

Time:
1/2 to 1 hour

Procedure:
Normally I would show you how to do it, but the instructions that come with the Redline tuning kit are already fantastic. The kit is 3rd gen 4runner specific, so it all fits very well. So instead I will just show you them installed.

If you want, you can watch this Mighty Car Mods episode for the hell of it because it is kind of relevant.

Here are the parts you get with the kit:

Curious to see how the shocks work out for ya. I've been looking at doing rear Kings forever but 10" was pretty much the max stroke I thought would fit in there. Without a big sacrifice in uptravel. Did you have to go into the body?

Wheel well has room with the right amount of backspacing

not width wise height wise. fitting the 12" in there without constantly bottoming out the shock. A couple guys on here were running 10" stroke shocks and was a tight fit height wise. They did relocate the lower mount higher on the axle though

All the measurements I have taken say otherwise. Also will be using extended bump stops to keep the 35's away from the body as much as I can.

I'm not doubting your measurements, just curious to see how it ends up. I've measured for 10s and never really thought about doing 12s so I havent looked at fitting one in there.

You are really good at doing write ups.
Wish i had a job like you, sounds like good money. Decided not to go into engineering in college. instead im in business management and hope to be able to go to a trade school after I get my management degree. But for now Ill be a broke college student with dreams of having the money to do mods like your's.

All that matters is that you do what you enjoy, regardless of money. Thanks for the compliments.

I appreciate how thorough you are with the mods you're doing and sharing with the community. Good combination of left brain sequential linear thinking along with your non-linear non sequential creative side. Nice blend of functionality and aesthetics.

Added plugs to wiring

Measured again today. Should have 0.5-1" more uptravel than I did with the Bilstein 5125's

Thanks! The thread is just as much of a project as the truck. I enjoy the mods as much as I do writing about them and sharing.

I just like the pictures of shiny things

This should hold you over for a little bit then :)

Fantastic job on the wiring! I'm also doing the same on mine. It's a pain to remove the panel without having all of the connectors unplug from the pins. Also doing the Blue Sea fuse box with breaker to facilitate install of future accessories. One of my all time favorite builds and am glad to see it back! Keep up the good work!
