Ripcord's 2002 Sport Ed. Version 2.0

That shock is severely limiting my downtravel, soon I am going to replace it with a much longer one.

Looking forward to seeing what you have planned. I'm assuming King's are going in place of the Icons?
What kind of travel are you able to achieve with the Icons you have now with the outboard shock mounts?

In other news..

I have accepted a design engineer position at King Shocks!

I will be moving to Los Angeles at the end of the month!

Congrats, and welcome to the Best Coast!! Looks like we can expect a suspension swap in the near future  I just ordered up a full King setup for my truck, and you'll see a lot more peeps run them out here. It will be good to see your rig on the trails!

Congrats on the job! Hope we'll be seeing some King bling on the rig in the future .

Thanks guys, yes King stuff will be on in the near future. I am also seriously considering a full front Long Travel setup, I will be in So Cal after all..

I mentioned a few pages back that I must have measured incorrectly and have the icons mounted too high. As such I have tons of up travel (more than I can use) and not as much down travel as I should, They are 10" icons. I have measured that with the current mount position and some 12" shocks I should get another 3-4" of downtravel and more correct usage of the uptravel to use the full 12".

looking at pics of your diff removal i noticed you don't have a diff drop, wondering why
Because I run less front suspension lift than most. only around 2.75".

That will be a nice upgrade for sure! Will you be able to keep the bump stops in the same place as stock or will you need to extend them as well with the longer shocks?
Also you may want to consider upgrading your rear links at the same time. I went through 2 sets of stock links in a year because the bushing were shot from overworking them. Broke an upper link too. I'm sure OEM bushings are better than the ones from the auto parts store but still can't last long through those conditions. Plus with upgraded links you won't bend them as much. Stoked to see what you can pull of and go on some wheeling trips soon.

Ran Yankee Hill as my last Colorado trail while living here. Went with Flemster and Bijan and tons of FJs.

It was also my first run with the new diffs and air lockers! I used the rear a few times, even though I really didn't need to. Just wanted to feel it working.

I will tweak the bump stops as needed for the compressed length of the shock. Rear links have been on the list for a long time, and I would definitely do that when I change to kings. I had upgraded links on my last 4runner.

I am excited to go wheeling with all you guys. I hope to be able to go often!

Wheeling with you will result in me finally regearing...

In the last bit of California prep today I did a complete detail job, lubed driveshafts, and bled the brakes. Removed roof rack until the new rack design from Flemster is ready to go.

Wash, claybar, polish, glaze, and wax took about 4 hours.

Rip, have kept up with your build, your attention to detail is great. Inside and out. Figured your were into engineering.
Two best builds = Ripcord and Dirtco, it's all in the details.

Gratz on job bud. You, and a few close personal friends, have actually inspired me to go back to school for engineering, specifically mechanical, and even more specifically with a focus on management.

Keep up the good stuff!

Ugh, I hate that you're making me want 35's!

btw... good luck with your front tint in CA. Just make sure to roll 'em down if you get pulled over. Doesn't usually work, but it cant' hurt.

Hey Absalom, do it. I started my Mech Eng degree aged 25. Best decision I ever made. A challenge paying my own way thru, but life changing. Best of luck!

On a side note, I wanted to be a suspension design Engineer, but got lured into O&G. Im pretty dang jelly of Ripcord! I guess I will just live my dreams vicariuously thru him....

25 still not that bad. Starting over in your 30s is harder.

Ripcord is a smart kid, he deserves this gig and has earned it [emoji1]

Eh, that's a city-by-city thing. Been pulled over a few times, never had a tint ticket. Some cities though... watch out!
