I missed being out and about, so I ditched the Mercedes sedan and bought a used 2000 SR5 with rear locker, cloth, color matched flares, and no sunroof in Desert Dune. 162k on it and fairly clean. My idea is to just build a fun overland/camping car. So this is how it is going:

Before .................................................................. current

Then I added a quick roof basket off of CL for 40 bucks for firewood and gas storage. I use an imported coffee burlap sack off eBay to keep the firewood debris from blowing off ($2.00) and then I picked up two plastic jerrycans, one for gas and one for water.

Test Trip

My girlfriend and I went off to Big Sur to see how it would go. We kind of fell for it all and I decided to start putting together a list of to do's and found T4R.org and compiled ideas. I went of some solo wheeling-ish trips to see what it needed:

Dirt roading!

So at 164k ish miles and looking at most of your threads, I began making some changes in April, starting with shocks. Not certain where I wanted to go yet, I picked up some Ranchos to get some extended travel and help out my poor stock coils that couldn't hold the weight of our cooler.

More solo test runs

I found some dirt roads where I live, kicked myself for not doing this years ago, and decided this was something I wanted to get into.

Smoking credit cards!

After looking at roughly 4,387 posts about suspension sets ups :ohwell: I got OME coils to help the Rancho shocks out, plus I wanted a minor lift. So some boxes showed up...881 and 890s.

Don't Text and Drive

then, after dreaming of my future build while at work, a coworker runs in to say that my truck has been hit...parked...on a quiet street, at 7:30 in the morning. :tape:
It got shoved up onto the curb and dented down the whole driver side by a young driver in a very lifted/big ol tire Dodge Ram. The fender, flare, rocker, both doors, rear flare and mud flap-thing were all hit.

Merely a flesh wound!

The damage down the driver side, plus the hit it took that forced it to move sideways up the curb until it hit a parking meter was determined to be fatal and insurance decided on a total loss. I'd driven it to the body shop like this so I immediately allowed them to pay it off and I bought it back.

Did you leave the kid alive? Or did you not get to see him? I would have had to try not to strangle them...

Right? He was shaking like a leaf and had already called the police and his Dad. They were car guys and knew exactly what he'd done. They upgraded my rental and did everything they could, but yeah, I wanted to throw him very far.

Hell, if I ever hit anyones car that loves it as much as I love my 4Runner, I would fear for my life. Someone slams it with a car door and I want to tear into them, hopefully everything gets squared away and maybe someone on here can help you out with spare parts.

In the shop

getting parts swapped out and paint matched this week. But I did get some things I needed...First I realized I wasn't ready for bad luck...so I got a hi lift...

PATCO hi lift mounts

then I needed a way to carry the hi lift. So I found PATCO mounts recommended by a lot of people here. That will work perfectly as I don't like lots of roof weight at all. Will install as soon as it gets back from the shop.

yeah! I haven't seen too many myself. It's getting all its body work done this week from its accident, so I've been planning and shopping.

D-ring mounts

Got my mounts from legokcen today. They look perfect and exactly what I needed as it may be a while before I get a bumper...not sure about paint though. I can't decide so I left them...can't wait to get them on.
