RSG all the way

Flat with kick-out has been awesome for me. The top plates helps keep "some" of the snow/slush/mud/crap from hitting the doors, but it really helps as a step for kids, wives and reaching or loading stuff on the roof.

I would reconsider if I was in your shoes. I have the angled RSG with kickout, no tread plate. My wife is 5’2” and hates them when she wears heels lol. My mom struggled to get in. If I had to do it over again I would pick the flat with tread plates. Just my .02

I think I’m going Shrockworks angled without plate. I really like the look and I don’t need a step. Open the door and use that as a step

One thing I was wondering is how useful is the kickout for off road purposes? Is it more for off road or for the step utility?

I got mine without and now wish I had gotten it plated just for a little more protection. While off roading last year, my front tire hit a broken branch laying in the dirt causing it to come up, go between the slider arms and hit the bottom of my front passenger door. If a plate was there, there’d probably be no body damage...

Adds character I guess...

IMO, angled looks better. Flat with plates adds more protection from debris and adds more utility with loading stuff on top or cleaning the top. I chose flat and wish it didn't stick out so much, but the protection it provides makes up for the look.

I got mine without and now wish I had gotten it plated just for a little more protection. While off roading last year, my front tire hit a broken branch laying in the dirt causing it to come up, go between the slider arms and hit the bottom of my front passenger door. If a plate was there, there’d probably be no body damage...

The last thing to decide is if go with flat or angled. I like more the look of the angled ones, but I was wondering how actually useable is the plate given the angle. Any feedback from owners?

Bumping this thread up.

I was originally going to go with shrockworks on my new 2020, but someone in this thread mentioned that if someone's foot slipped and it went down between the slider and the car that they could really get hurt. That really made quite a bit of sense to me, especially since family members are either girls or older-aged. Not to mention, it rains a lot here in FL and even I might slip on the things and have that happen. I like the look, but sometimes that has to give way to practicality.

I think I've decided to go with RSG. Angled with the grip top plate and the kickout, DOM metal, powdercoated. All together, they're like $1200 shipped.

Im in the same boat as you. Pretty sure I want RSG with kickout and plates.

I wanted angled but after someone opened their door into mine and left a crease in the door on my 3 week old 2019, i'm considering flat to get further protection. If they don't have the respect to watch their doors, then **** their doors.

My question to people on here with varying brands, how much do your sliders stick out PAST the widest section of the doors?

Well, carlodonz, here's my feedback on our excellent angled RSG, kickout, holes down rock rails. I'm 6'2" and the Mrs. is 5'9" and neither of us use it as a step...it would be awkward for us. It can be used somewhat as a step but if you think you will definitely need a step (dogs, small kids, older folks, etc.) better get flat.

The logos are riveted on. You can drill out the rivets, remove the logo plates, and touch up the holes with a few dabs of paint. On the other hand, if I spend the better part of $1K on something, it has to be a well-designed quality product on which I usually don't mind the designer taking credit for and/or promoting with a low-key logo. The flat laser-cut steel RSG logo plate on the tread-plate version is pretty darn subtle, especially when ordered powder-coated to match the slider.

I’ve read something similar to what you are describing. I don’t care much for the look of the tread plates, but with two small children and an elderly mother in my household, it’s a small sacrifice.

To piggyback off this. Anyone with the C4 know if they require drilling? Their website says no, but I saw an install video and they drilled on the cross member on one side. Thanks!

Doubt any slider will stop all doors from potentially dinging your car. It all depends on the height and shape of the door. My wife’s VW beetle doors ding my car despite my sliders. That beetle is really low to the ground but the door shape is just right such that it hits my car.

Nope, my young kids, wife and whomever else that uses my CaliRaised 20˚ sliders (non-plated) as a step have never had an issue entering/exiting my 4R.
