Rola Rack System...not bad!

So, I love my 5th generation 4runner...LOVE it! But, there was one thing that I rather hated...the ugly chrome rail and bulky plastic covers (for us SR5 and limited owners). I took them off a long time ago (roof rack delete), choosing to load my kayaks/boards on my utility trailer with thule bars and mounts. Liked the look of a "naked roof", but still wanted a rack...just not the stupid rails. Thought about custom installing thule feet so I could use my bars...but didnt want to put extra holes in the roof. Then, I stumbled upon Rola...who developed feet to attach to our factory mounting points - eureka! It is about $300 on Rola's site...but got a steal on Roofracksforless.com for $200. So far so good...and looks better than the dumb rails IMO! Hopefully this is helpful for someone out there.

HAHA...yeah...I really did NOT like the factory rack. Too much cheap-looking bulkyness! This makes the truck look a little more retro...plus, my thule accessories fit on these as well.

Have you had any reception issues with your satellite radio with the rear cross bar crossing, it looks in the pictures, directly across the antenna? I ran into issues this summer when I moved the rear cross bar on my factory TE rack near my antenna. I took it to the dealer to have the system checked out and they found nothing wrong. I moved the cross bar a few inches forward and the problem went away.

No issues to report regarding the satellite radio. That is one thing to note - the bar comes very close to that antenna. but again, no issues!

Looks great, do you have any added noise when the sunroof is open? I know sometimes the position of the front bar can cause an increase in noise.

No noise! I figured there might be like my thule bars (had to get the fairing)...but nothing.

Havent taken it through a car wash (do that myself), but I am pretty certain it would be fine. The thing is on solid and not that high if clearance is a concern.

Resurrecting an old thread.... still trying to decide what to do to get rid of the hideous LE roof rack. Bump to check the longevity of tedstryker's rola solution. Any long term issues?

No...This is actually what I was wanting to do until I settled for Thule crossbars on top of the Trail Edition factory racks...sits way in the sky!!!

If there is something like the OP's out there today....I might sell what I have and consider that.

Nice work! I remember when I could find stuff on the internet. I went to there site and only saw universal crap. This suits my needs-ordered.

It says it only has a capacity of 110lbs. That's not very good. Would only hold my big kayak, and definitely not my wife and daughter's in addition to it... Maybe mine and my wife's. Comparable cross bars I've been looking at hold around 150lbs to 165 lbs... Looks good though...
