Whats the risk comparable to? Jeep Wrangler? Chevy Tahoe?

Compared to other SUV's, it has a slightly higher roll over, but not really large enough to be much of a deciding factor between vehicles. They are all pretty high risk, relatively speaking.

Any vehicle that is designed to be used offroad will have a higher likelihood of a rollover.
 
I’m not necessarily surprised, but I’ll say I feel a heck of a lot safer in either of my 4Runners, or Tacoma, compared to my old Jeep JK. It’s the last of the true body on frame high clearance SUV’s so it’s going to have the numbers against it.

I also don’t believe the JK or JL can compare to the 4Runner in rollover crash survivability. Jeep’s have thin, removable doors and window frames, removable top, and use a sport bar that hardly reinforces the windshield. The 4Runner has a fully integrated body utilizing hardened steel in key areas (from past research, if anyone has links feel free to post them.)

I don’t think the new discovery or cruiser are even tested, but I’m sure they’re up there. I read somewhere that the 200 series crusier was one of the first vehicles that doesn’t require an external reinforced roll cage for commercial mining use in Australia, but again I’ll have to check, it was a while back when I read that.

That's discouraging. I wonder if wheel spacers/negative offset wheels = wider stance makes the roll-over risk a lil lower?

Widening the track width will definitely offset the risk. But if you lift it, it may negate the gain. There are video's of people flopping these things on trails but that's inexperienced and/or poor line choice. I find the only thing unstable about these rigs is the nose dive from the brakes sometimes. Side to side I find it very stable. Toyota's "small" off-road vehicles like the 4runner and Tacoma have been wide for a while. They have the same axle width as old full size vehicles of 65" which is right around the same as 70-late 90s full size trucks.

So you have to be putting yourself in some really oddball situations to roll it. And then if you do the inside turns into a giant airbag. But as far as being a Reliant Robin you won't have to worry.
 
I guess I have to call BS on this conclusion. It says that the 4 Runner is the worst at 24.6%, but then goes on to list the Wrangler at 27.9%, and the Nissan NV3500 at 30.6%.

Most all of the SUV's that are off road capable are high for ground clearance and are top heavy. It only stands to reason that they will tip more easily. These things were not made for Le Mans.

And of all on the list, the Wrangler and the 4 Runner are the only ones in their class as far as frame-on off road vehicles go. So maybe the headline should be the 4 Runner is best in it's class as far as roll over goes, because it is better than the Wrangler.:loco:

Not sure how it can have the worse tested but yet the Jeep is higher % of roll over...

Just something to worry about when you have your family in there.
 
Ladder frame trucks in SUV form all have awful ratings for rollover tests. It's just not what they're designed to do and it's something you run into more often the taller a car is.

I bet KDSS does a lot to reduce that, but also at the same time if you are driving in a manner that this is a real concern, a large SUV may not be for you.
