Rolling Rub

So I am getting a metallic rubbing sound coming from my vehicle. I haven't had time to take off any of the wheels yet, but where are my symptoms;

• Rub definitely tied to rolling
• Increases with speed
• Seems to stop around 50 mph, could be just road noise is drowning it out
• Goes "away" eventually, possibly after 90 degree right turn
• Seems to continue while stopping

All started after getting off the freeway last night, first full stop after freeway seemed to pull one way. Also after the rubbing sound stopped last night I had a sound that sounded like I was dragging something under the vehicle which went away and came back as well but it could have been my exhaust hitting the frame, as i have not gotten it fixed completely after having the cat jacked.

I know "sounds" are hard to help with over the interwebz but any help would be great, thanks!

Check your brake dust/backing plates. I've seen them rust off before and drag on the rotors/drums intermittently. Other than that check the drive shaft areas to see if there is a heat shield hanging loose and possibly making contact.

Does the sound seem to decrease or increase when turning one way or the other?

I'm having a similar issue and it sounds like it's on the driver driver side. I initially thought it was the brake pads being worn out, so I replaced the pads and the rotors. Took it for a spin and the metallic rubbing sound was still present like before. I did notice the driver side dust shield was bent and rusted so I cleaned and straightened it out. I also made sure it didn't rub by spinning the wheel freely before lowering the truck. The sound increases on a right turn and then fades and increases when I press on the brakes. It's driving me crazy!

Could be a bent dust shield (as mentioned above) or a seized caliper piston causing the brake pad to drag on the rotor. It seems odd that the dust shield would bend suddenly on the interstate, and seized caliper pistons are not that unusual. Try jacking it up and rolling the wheel by hand. Then systematically removing components until you find the source. If you end up needing a caliper, it's a not a huge deal. Reman unit is $83 at advance auto. sounds like brakes to me. The little clips that keep the brake pads inside the caliper have come loose on me before and made this noise because they were rubbing on the brake rotor

Wheel bearing?

I second The Bearing theory. My truck is doing the same exact thing right now. I Just had it lifted on Saturday and now its grinding. Started tearing up my rotor. I am waiting to tow it home as I speak. I jacked it up and there is a lot of play with the tire off the ground.

I just heard that 4x4 bearing replacements are a lot harder to do. Anyone know of a thread out there breaking down the replacement of it?
