If you look at other 4Runer rollovers, that looks like a ton of speed to me. Crazy thing is that it looks like the driver and passenger would have survived. The 4Runner does not crush easily, I would not be worried unless you plan on rallying. Lol WTF I would like to know the circumstances of this accident. A lot of people like to GOD MODE their SUV's.

If I had to guess, that went over multiple times at high speed and landed hard on the roof. What a mess. Judging by the way the B piller is cut out, I'd say they definitely had to extricate. Hopefully the occupant was just pinned and not mangled. Ugh.

Was it too much speed that caused the roof to collapse like this? It doesn't look like falling of a cliff since the roof collapsed front-driver and rear-right sides.

Judging by the DS tires both being blown off the outside bead i would suspect that the inital impact was cause by a side flip. I can see clear dirt impact marks on that side. However another very possible conclusion would be a ditch roll. I rolled my 2000 Tacoma off of a ditch and the damage was very similar, less the blown tires.... My tire blew as a result of flipping it back over.
BTW... I walked away without a scratch. and you will notice that on the drivers side the steering wheel is actually stick up out of the windshield.
But when you roll into a ditch, the roof can hit the other side of the ditch at even normal speeds and destroy it. This was at between 45-50 in Tyler TX off of a small bank.

According to Safecar.org, the 4runner has 3 of 5 stars for rollovers (but 4 of 5 for frontal and 5 of 5 for side crashes) I think in 2013 they improved the roof strength, but apparently not enough to increase the rating.

The pictures the OP posted do scare me a little, I wounder what the details of that crash were. Boyant suspension and weak roofs aren't good combinations.

I don't think this is a function of roof strength, I think this is derived mostly from the likelihood to roll over (note how the rollover rating gives you the "risk of rollover") and *that* is largely determined by how high your center of mass is.
I suspect that all high-clearance vehicles are more liable to roll over, just comes with the territory.

Pictures like these were interesting to me up until the moment I first drove my son home from the hospital, since then they are just disturbing. Perhaps someone in law enforcement can run the plate or vin to determine if this was a fatality or find a news story. Personal belongings are clearly visible in the back, certainly this was a life altering day for those involved. Sad.
Where do u see "personal belongings"?

Neither unless it was made of 3" 1/4" wall CDSM tubing and welded to the frame.

Look at the pictures on co part. There are plenty items in those pictures that were not original parts of the vehicle, including blood.
