Roof Rack options / help

When you look at the high strength steel used in the front "A" pillars ,I see no reason why the front part of the roof wouldn't support the same as the back.Actually looks like it's made of stronger steel to protect the driver/pass's .
My original drawings for the baja flat rack didn't have the cutout for the sunroof and Nathan talked me into it and added it to the drawings.
At the time,Sergio at Bajarack said they can be ordered with or without sunroof cut out.I opted for it because I was worried the rear tilt function of moon roof would hit and break the glass.

My worry would not be the structure, more so the sheet metal. I would certainly hope that the structure should hold at least my weight as that is what is protecting your head in a rollover :jaw drop:

?.....The front 2 feet sit on those outside seams where the black plastic is,the same as the mid and back feet.At least on mine it does.

I drilled a 3/8" hole thru mine on the passenger side under the front right foot and ran wire down the inside of the A pillar for my LED's . It's some thick tough steel up there and I had to use cobalt tipped bits.

Mine sits in the same fashion, about half on the seams and half on sheet metal. I have not tried to stand on it, if you have I take your word for it. Only basing my comments on suggestions from BajaRack at the time of ordering it.

Where I got it is not as important as who you should contact about ordering one...lol (support our forum vendors)

1) I would definitely get it from RiDE here on the forum(hint for RiDE to chime in...lol)
2) Depends on what you want, refer to 1)
3) About 8 1/2" at the highest point (on the Ranger that is) without lights, just the rack...
 
I've had my baja flat rack on for a couple weeks.

Install was super easy. I put moving blankets on the roof and easily lifted it up there by myself. Installed it with RTV sealant.

Now regarding the wind noise. These guys are blowing smoke. :shrug:

There IS more wind noise. The moonroof even creaks some from the wind buffeting. The noise is much less with the moonroof screen closed.

However, it is liviable.

It looks great, and I like the rack :cheers:

I thought the logo was going to be a sticker I could remove and put on my toolbox or cabinet, but it seems to be a silkscreen in the powder coat. It is not removable. Rather than paint it, I used Di-noc carbon fiber vinyl to cover the wind deflector. I think it looks better w/o the big logo.

I walked all over mine and I weight every bit of 175lbs...OK more like 210lbs
I would not worry about loading it! with common sense that is...

Off topic: When I went for my 5K service, they put a little yellow sticker by the existing ones at the driver side door...It says that the truck cargo weight capacity has been reduce by some modifications to the truck!
I'll take a picture of it, it's just too funny.

LOL I have one of those as well. I was wondering where that came from because it just kind of showed up. I thought maybe I missed it somehow but I look at everything so I was hoping I wasn't going crazy LOL

Thanks guys!

I just received a couple more orders for Gobi Stealth's from members today. If you're thinking about purchasing your rack, do it as soon as you can. The current lead time as of today is 2 weeks for production and 5-12 days for freight shipping. Lead time's may increase.

The Stealth at it's highest point adds 7" above the roof of the 4R.

I've got the cutout for the sunroof as well, but I'm considering having a removable insert fabbed for longer trips. I'm picking up my RTT this week and would still like to be able to load a couple gerry cans up there. Not sure if I'll have room for them once the RTT is on. Has anyone else looked into doing this?

I plan on contacting BajaRack to see if they could make an insert similar to what is made by GOBI. I have not yet done so though.
 
Sounds like a reason for a new thread to gauge interest. I'm sure they'd be much more likely to design one if they were going to sell a dozen than just one or two. If not I was going to pay one of my friends to make one.

Pretty sure they can make removable inserts.

Yup, that's one of the pics John sent me when I was inquiring about the rack. Once I get the RTT mounted I'll see if there's room for the can holder as is or if it'll need an insert.
