Roof rack was trashed in a car wash....

Take it it to the dealership, get a quote for the repair, simple. Take that to the car wash and hand them a copy of the quote and let them know payment is expected in the next 30-days. Let them take it up with their insurance company.

The more I read your post the more I cringe though. Sounds like a couple of jokers who tried to 'help you' after the damage. I would not doubt if they said they 'never saw you before in their life' when you try to put a claim in. I hope you kept a copy of your car wash receipt as well proving you were there that day.

Did you have any paperwork done that day? Even a simple 'my truck was damaged by this car wash' and signed by the 2 kids on a scrap piece of paper?

There are the 2 long bars that run the length of the roof. There are also 2 cross bars that are held in with knobs. If the knobs were loose, I can see why it would have been removed. Was it destroyed from the fall? I think the cross bars are ~150 for the pair at a stealership.

It ripped the rear crossbar completely off and the passenger side long bar that runs the length of the roof is now loose.

I went to the dealership today and got the part number and price. I need to do more research but from what I was told today there is some sort of "stop sale" on these racks and I cannot buy individual parts. The price of the entire rack from the dealership is $800 and I cannot get one at this time

Just got off the phone with USAA! They are freaking AWESOME! Basically, the adjustor I talked to said that the entire rack will be covered, parts and labor. They will also cover the scratched up paint from where the crossmember hit the top of the 4Runner. I told him what I had found out from Toyota today about the "stop sale" on the racks and asked about aftermarket racks. Gobi specifically as they are 45 minutes from my house and he told me that I could pick out any roof rack and have it put on but I would be responsible for the difference in price.

He said that USAA will cover everything and that they will go after the carwash through their insurance company to recoup the cost of the replacement and that my premiums WILL NOT be affected whatsoever

I now need to go through the entire Gobi vs Baja thread to see what will work better for me. I am leaning towards Gobi as they are so close to me and that the install is included in the cost of the rack. They will also wire the lights for $299

USAA is pretty great. I had my 05 Tacoma broken into twice in one year and they covered everything with little question (they sent an adjuster after the second time, though...). Good luck with your decision and install!

I talked to Gobi today just to gather information and was quoted a price of $1150 installed and they would include the ladder. I think thats a GREAT price and I'm probably going to set a date tomorrow for the install. I think I got this price because I am so close and there is no shipping. They will also install lights for $299

Now I just need to decide if its worth the extra money to put the Rigid LED's on instead of the PIAA 2190's and 2192's. The cost difference is substantial but it may be worth it. Where I guide deer hunts it would be nice to be able to see em before I hit em. I've hit two with my truck in the past 3 years

that can't be right. it sounds like the "optional roof rack crossbars" on an SR5.

OP: Toyota's price to replace will be staggering... see here. i don't know that that's the correct figure, but if you do a search i recall this being discussed many times before. that's why there seems to be a solid market for TE rack takeoffs.

if you get them to give you a check for the OEM cost, you will probably be well in the ballpark for a Baja or Gobi, which would be a better way to spend your $, imho.

I highly doubt that a car was ripped off any pieces of the roof rack aside from maybe a plastic cover over the bolts or the crossbars. Either way, you are not going to get GOBI money out of them, maybe $200 at max if it trashed the crossbars. The rack is bolted in with some huge bolts, and made to handle around 300#. If a car wash ripped one of them off, it would have taken large pieces of the truck with it, as well as denting the hell out of everything around it.

I do not think you are lying, I know that car washes rip stuff off. I am being the voice of reason the the post about the full replacement cost of a stock TE rack (I am aware that it was not you posting that).
