After my rear end fix, I'm going to get a 3 in suspension lift off of rough country. I read the thread on the forum about lifts but don't know what to consider that lift. Do I need the diff drop the control arms and such?

A link is always helpful but it's a suspension lift. Diff drops are controversial. I have a 3.5" lift front and 4" lift rear with no diff drop. Never broke a CV or even a boot and I've done some decent offroading. Obviously not hard enough right? Haha. I hear bad things about rough Country, like being cheap and not worth it. I've personally never used them so I can't say good or bad things about them.
Spend extra, buy once.
Give a link to what exact one you're buying.
3in Suspension Lift Kit for 96-02 Toyota 4wd 4-Runner [771.20] | Rough Country Suspension Systems
A friend of mine got his from there and his hasn't gave him any problems
Your not getting much with that kit. A spacer in the front which you can read about in the lift FAQ and some taller springs for the rear with shocks to match. But you aren't paying much either...
I'm quite new to the toyota thing. I've done lots of off-roading for years, but never with a yota. I love it, there's just lots to learn. What suspension lift would you suggest getting and where from? I wanna get a kit that's worth having, and I don't mind to spend a little extra money if it's worth it. But at the same time, when I get done checking out id still like to have all arms and all legs.
What did you have before? The OME stuff is good especially for a daily driver. I had an OME setup on the rear of my old Tacoma. It is stiff but handles well and can handle extra weight. I always prefer an adjustable coilover in the front just so I can fine tune my ride height and spring preload.
On my T4R I went something that would perform best on the trail as that is it's primary purpose, not a daily driver unless I want to drive it.
I love to go off-roading, but don't always have time for it. My life's pretty busy right now. This is my daily driver and my trail rig. Eventually it'll become just my trail rig. But I spend about 20-30% of my time off-road and the rest on the road. So I'm not trying to spend a fortune for a sick off-road package since it wouldn't be used as much. But at the same time I want a mean look, a higher stance. When I do go off-road I might flex out on a rock or two maybe a few tree stumps but mainly just hit the mud. Is the high dollar stuff necessary or would somethin like a rough country like the link above work for a few years until I turned it strictly into a trail rig?
Have you considered a body lift? in my opinion it would probably perform better and make you taller and able to clear larger tires.
But to answer your question, yes the kit you have picked will do those things just fine, but I think there are better options personally. Are your shocks in good condition or do they need replaced?
Honestly I haven't looked at them. But with what all I've done to it since I've gotten it 2 months ago, I'd say they need to be replaced. It has body lift on it. 3 in. I think. But I'm looking for a little higher. 3 in. Body with a 3 in. Suspension would look nice I think. Just tryin to get er ridin high. 3 in. Just ain't enough for me. I'm used to having the jeep though. I had 5.5" suspension so I had no problem lol
If it already has a 3" body lift then I don't know what to tell you. A Toyota stock is much taller than most jeep models stock which is one reason they don't need to be lifted as high. It sounds like to me you are just going for a tall look and couldn't care less about how it performs so I would go with the cheapest option out there. Maybe something like this:
Toyota 4Runner 2.5" Front & Rear Spacer Lift Kit 1996-2002
Just for my curiosities sake how big of tire are you running now and what do you plan to put on?
My jeep had a 5.5 in. Suspension lift along with a 3 in. Body lift so I can tell quite the difference in the heighth. Right now I'm running 33 12.50 and could definitely use some wheel spacers. But plan on going up to 35's sometime in the future. In the future I want more of an advanced suspension lift that performs real well. But right now it's my daily driver and I do go off-road but not much. I want the look right now but also with some performance capabilities. No top of the line stuff yet, as once again, it's my daily driver and won't be seeing the trails as much as it will in a few years.
Good luck with 35's on the stock drivetrain. I am sure it has been done before.
When I finish college and get a different daily driver I plan on putting a 350 or somethin of the sort into it. Different drivetrain different transfer case. Etc.
Also do the diff drop and panhard. It's to cheap no to do it and really does help.
Don't swap a 350. In my opinion it's stupid to swap motors from other companies. Some may want a chevota, or a tord. I don't like the idea of them. When I finish college and get a different daily driver I plan on putting a 350 or somethin of the sort into it. Different drivetrain different transfer case. Etc.

Just buy the OME kit and be done. They're a great name brand to use.
