Rough paint/clear on rear hatch normal?

when the vehicles are being transported from japan they are exposed to those environmental contaminates so toyota is responsible .

there should be a class action lawsuit against Toyota if this is affecting many owners with NEW vehicles less than a year old on the rear hatch.
It is expected that this toyota vehicle is for exterior use .

should be and are are different things, unless you noted the damage when you took ownership you have no way to show that toyota caused this. and even if you could show they caused it, a lot of states don't have enough consumer protection laws to help you out unless they misrepresented the car in some way (i.e. said it was free of paint defects when in fact it had paint defects)

the problem is that they don't consider this issue a paint defect, they consider it paint damage

there is a good chance that toyota or your dealership will help you out to keep a customer happy, some have had good luck, but they don't have to. your best strategy would be to start out by playing nice at the dealership

I was actually able to buff it out with hand wax and elbow grease but it took a bit of work and left some swirl marks because I had to really push at it. I would recommend a body shop that’s skilled it took a few passes with cleaner wax application and buffing to finally get it out. At this point I’m happy because it’s smooth - also it hasn’t returned.

I had this too! Seems to me that road debris somehow collects on the tailgate. I couldn’t figure it out, but a good dealing clay, elbow grease and hand wax cleared it up. Smooth a glass now.

A class action lawsuit because some dirt or small metal particles got on the paint? Please. Clean them off and be happy. Further, I think the 4Runners are at least partially covered with white clinging plastic prior to shipping. So I doubt its Toyotas fault.

I get little spots back there too. I think its from dirt and particles swirling behind the vehicle, and they land on the lip at the bottom of the window. Big deal. Clay pad and they come right off. And I would absolutely clay a brand new vehicle prior to waxing it. Why would you not? Just because its new does not mean the paint does not have comtaminants in it.

Every vehicle out there will have fallout rail dust and all sorts of other crap on the paint, next time your at a car lot or even your own vehicle? just run your hands over the hood and you will feel that roughness that’s the crap that’s in/on your paint, unless your addicted to detailing like me, most people never worry about it, but simple use of clay bar and some detail spray for lube will make that paint nice and smooth again, and take away the contamination.. doing this and using a good wax or sealant will help combat those issues..

clear coat will get damaged using a clay bar.. use final finish polishing compound with a black foam pad .. 3M ..

hatch door on all these vehicles will get road crap all over the rear .. I get the hose out and wash it off if I see any road crap on the paint.
I also use a micro fiber washing pad and soft brush also on the wheels . only use high quality car soap with a wax in it .. do not use any acid cleaners like dish soap etc..

You are not correct about not clay baring a new vehicle. Actually that is the best time to do it. You get more contamination on the paint from transport than when you drive it. Clay baring will NOT scratch it if you follow directions and use the proper materials. Actually a brush on your paint will scratch it more than a clay bar.

well I have vehicles that are old .. like 20 plus years. also black . I use a proper auto brush some times if the dirt is too much .

so that is your opinion on your work to clean up your vehicles.
my vehicles I keep for a couple of decades . I never had to use any clay bar cleaners or other products that I had to use to remove any debris or stains .

use the proper soap with a wax in it .. also I do not use any commercial car wash cleaning . so no problems with what you others have had with paint damage from discoloration and paint wear.

Knock yourself out with the brush if there is too much dirt. That is the absolute worst time to use a brush. I also keep my vehicles for a long time. My black 2000 F350 has never seen a brush or commercial wash. I purchased it brand new and it gets used. I have clay bared it twice, the first time being when it was brand new and use only Zainos products on it and all my vehicles. I have owned my 2003 4Runner since 2005 and it gets the same treatment with excellent results. I have several show cars that I treat the same way. They look great.
Another pointer. Do not use wax. It is what 'scratches' when you rub on it, including swirl marks. Do yourself a favor and visit Zainos web site. Read through their recommendations. They know what they are talking about. I have used their products for over 20 years and they make a difference in the shine and endurance.

Correct. I waxed, used a claybar and waxed again last year. It was smooth as glass. This year, I can feel those bumps all that vet again. It’s just the way the vehicle picks up road contaminants.

yes... if you really want your paint to be at its best, you should claybar it at least annually.
paint is soft since we can't use lead anymore

i just go drive mine thru a bunch of trees and bushes and cactus and it knocks all the debris off
