Rubber Door Seal Problem

I noticed that the drivers door rubber seal is breaking apart a little. It seems to be one piece and clamped in by the side molding for the car. I wondered if anyone has had the same problem and what they did to fix it?

There are two spots, here is the rubber seal on the side of the door.

Here is the bottom of the door. Not quite as visible. Also, the paint is coming off the side, I guess from the feet coming in and out of the vehicle.

For now, I am leaving it alone, but I am tempted to replace the whole door seal.

It is easy to fix. I did it about a year ago.
You just get new rubber seal from the dealers.

One thing you need to careful is theres a few holes on it.
These holes need to be placed at bottom area.

Great, I knew someone would know how to do this, even if it is half a world away. I like the pictures you posted. I also like the little cigarette holder and even the steering wheel on the right side of the car.

I thought I would have to remove the hard plastic cover along the sides and bottom of the door frame, but from your picture it looks like I don't have to, which way is it?

I think I might give it a go. I will be sure to put the holes at the bottom of the door.

You must remove plastic plate at bottom but it's only few screws and easy.
Side panel between front and rear seat, just pull it to remove but l did not remove this when I installed.
Another small side panel you can just slide it to remove.

Also no need to use any glue. The rubber must be tight enough to hold itself.

or you could do like i did and repair the wearing peices of the seal with some 1" width electrical tape. blends in perfectly and is a Freebie, Freebie, Freebie.

I had the same problem with mine and it was starting to make a little more noise. I was also worried about water getting inside when I washed the car. I think the seal was either $60 or $80 dollars from the dealer. I also noticed that I had to push the door harder to close it. Its not to hard to do. Like the guys said there are some drain holes that you need to make sure they are on the bottom.

Well, it's been a few months since I posted this thread. I was waiting for a big order for Toyota parts, so I can strecth the shipping cost. Anyway, thanks to Hirox, I just fixed my rubber door seal. The part listed for $122 and I paid around $58. I am guessing around $60 with shipping. I bought oil filters, paint, items for the Previa and the shipping cost was $12 for everything.

The first thing I did was take off the plastic door plate at the bottom of the door. It was on with 4 screws. The other plastic parts on the side of the door moved away with ease, I did both on the back side and the front side. The front had some wiring under the cover.

The next thing is Hirox said to put the holes at the bottom, well mine had holes almost everywhere. I found a blue dot on both of the seals and I matched them up. Also, I found a white dot at the top and they matched. The biggest hole was located directly at the bottom. Before I put in the seal, I cleaned out any dirt in the frame area.

It went in pretty easy, I did push it in really hard and even used a wood mallet to put the seal in tight.

Here is a picture of the front plastic side that came off. I re-installed it and cleaned the frame before putting on the brown bottom door plate.

Everything is back, the door closes fine. 45 minutes doing the seal and 20 minutes writning it up here. Finished, thanks Hirox. Just like new. The next project is to use the touch up paint to touch up the missing paint at the bottom of the door.

I couldn't get to it until I got home. My order says for describtion ".161 weatherstrip", list is $121.61, my cost was $58.28. The part # is 62312-35013.

I bought it from Mechanicsville Toyota, phone 804-559-8717. They also have a web site at www.magauto.com but I like to call them as they are very helpful.

I bought the drivers side front seal, I am sure the other side is a different number. Also, I am going by the Mechanisville Toyota invoice, I assume the part # is the same as the Toyota number, but I am not positive. I hope this helps.

Well now that we have a usable SEARCH and our old pictures are now being posted, I thought I would up-date this thread. My rubber door seal had a bit of a problem. It kept coming off in the upper right corner. It would fall off the seam, just about 1/2 inch, but you could hear the wind noise. I tried moving it around a bit, but nothing worked. I finally used some glue, my glue was called "Goop", not a great name, but it worked. I applied some to the inside and got a stick braced it against the pavement and the seam and let it sit for a hour.

It has been on for about 5 months and seems to be fine. If I would put it in again, I would start at the bottom middle and work my way to the right, anti-clock wise. That way the end would not be at the upper right.
