Rubbing issue

Ok, so I purchased 275/70/17 BFG KO's with Level 8 MK6 17x9 -12 wheels. I have also lifted my 4runner. The tires are rubbing and I can't get someone to align it so they will stop. I originally told the shop to get me 17x8's but I guess they didn't understand me when I said that. If I go to 17x8's will that stop the rubbing? The rubbing is about 8/10's full turned both ways. Any help or ideas are appreciated. At this point I'm close to going back and getting them to put 265's back on but I would rather not...

The x9 vs x8 shouldn't be a contributor (whatever it does contribute is really minuscule and anything due to tire 'bulging' differently is almost impossible to quantify without measuring specific tires on specific rims)
The -12 instead of the stock +15 is the primary contributor
the 275 instead of stock 265 is a secondary contributor

You need to be specific on where it is rubbing. Then take that information and look at the stickies where you will find everything you'll need to trim/move fender liner/remove mudflap/body mount chop.

Actually, it will. The extra inch is on the outside of the tire effectively pushing the tire outwards. This is assuming the backspacing is the same for both width wheels which usually are within the same manufacturer. However, a -12mm offset for an 8" wheel is going to be different than a -12mm offset for a 9" wheel. The backspacing will be higher for the 9" wheel (by about a 1/2")

Offset is directly related to the centerline of the rim/wheel/tire. When we start talking about backspacing it gets confusing because you now must know the wheel width. The offset doesn't require that value, so we have a 15+12mm difference pushing the tire to the outside. The rim width doesn't need to play into the equation unless you're talking about tire bulge (how it actually sits in the rim).

You still need to know wheel width. A +12mm on a 17x8 will be 5" of backspacing and +12mm on a 17x10 will be 6" of backspacing. Wheel width is important with both measurements and offset absolutely requires that value.

Calculate where the center-plane of the wheel is using either method you want. You still have a 275 (or whatever width tire) mounted evenly about the center-plane. Backspacing isn't that important to this specific issue. If the offset were the other way and you reduce clearance to the suspension components, then the rim might come in to play.

Okay. I'm done. Don't want to discuss backspacing or offset over the interwebs anymore. :)
