Rubbing with 275/70R17 Goodyear MTRs?

Some people have posted that fitting Goodyear MTR 275/70R17 tires will cause *some* rubbing and require *some* trimming on a 4th-gen 4Runner. Could someone be a little more specific - exactly how much rubbing? Maybe post a pic for us newbie's on what needed to be trimmed? I'm thinking that the 275/70 tires should rub a fair bit less than the 285's obviously do.

I'm thinking of putting in the Cornfed spacer lift and larger tires. Just wondering how much the 275/70R17's actually rub, and exactly how much trimming is actually required for them.

Any advice would be appreciated!

not sure as i've never tried that size but i'm sure it'll rub abit. most common places are the front bumper at the bottom triangular portion. also the fender liner will rub as well. front and rear mud flap too.

if you plan to offroad, just remove the flaps completely as they'll get ripped off on the trail and do more damage later on to the other parts it's connected too.

also, tire mfg will make a diff as not all sizes are the same. trial and error basically but since it's not 285's less to worry about.

Yes, if you're just going with a 3" lift, they will rub. They measure 32.4" outer diameter, and will require you to cut the inner fender lining at least, and the triangular things on each side. That said, I ran them on aftermarket wheels and with 4" of lift up front, so I am not quite sure how it would be on stock rims with only 3" of lift.

You stated in a PM to me that the Cornfed lift gives 2" of lift ... I really think it gives around 3" of lift ... see this thread:

(also note he mentions the install price if you still need that)

If instead you custom-ordered only 2" of lift, then I would advise against the 275s ... it would just require more cutting than I think you'd want to get into right now ...

Thank you - that's very helpful. You're exactly right; I don't want to get into a bunch of trimming at the moment. I don't think my wife would greatly appreciate me chopping into our new truck! Looks like the decision is I'll do the same as many others on this forum have done: 265/70R17 Revos. Thanks again for the voice of experience.
