Running board help

I ordered oem running boards on my new 4R. As installed, they are much too high, making the step up too tall, and once up on the step entry into the 4R causes the wife to bump her head.

The easy answer would be longer hanger brackets, but my dealer tells me there is no such thing.

Before I go to a fabricator, does anyone have a suggestion?

N-Fab steps?

There are two different bracket sets for the 5th gens. The ones you should have are for the 2010 - 2013 SR5 and 2010+ Limited as they have the rocker molding so its needs the extended brackets to go below it. The short brackets are for the 2010+ TE and 2014+ SR5s as they don't have the lower molding.

Thanks, but I prefer the RBs.

Now that makes sense. Thank you. I'll have to dig into finding some part numbers. My luck, Toyota will want big bucks.

EDIT: PT925-89100-BK Toyota wants $140/set. Shopping next.

Might want to double check on that before you go off and buy a set. Not sure how it'll look with a gap there since you have a new SR5 and not the 10-13.

Yeah, I thought of that. But they are a genuine PITA the way they are. Compromises.

To close this out: That part number is for a longer bracket, which fits the truck but it does not line up with the black RBs that are the OEM ones for SR5 and TRDOR models.

Hey Phil,

So you're saying that it will not fit if used with the longer brackets and keeping the rocker molding? I think the bolt pattern should be there same the only difference should be the length to fit the molding on the Premium model.

Hi Phil,

I've run into the same problem (would have to remove the trim to install the running boards I bought from amazon). Going to return the amazon boards, do you or anyone else know of running boards and mounts that are compatible with the 4runner 2018 Limited edition?

Thanks,
John

I can't speak to the LE with certainty. No doubt you could get oems from your dealer or there are lots of on-line Toyota oem parts sellers.

I suggest you look in, or posting a WTB in the 5G classifieds - guys are always taking them off.

New member, read this post and it helped me figure out what I did wrong. We purchased a new 2018 4Runner and wanted to install some running boards. Well, I went out on Craigslist and found a pair for 80$, not bad I thought. Got home installed them right away but scratched my head thinking "Man, these really look funky, they seem to be really low to the ground or something." These must be for the earlier 5th gen LE's because the bracket seems kind of long. They just don't look right, lol.

Ugh, so now I'm stuck with these longer bracket running boards. Does anyone know the part number of the shorter brackets? Will they hook right up to my Yoda and current boards?

Went to classifieds, I'm too much of a newbie around here, need to make a few posts.

Anyone selling some running boards that will fit and look right on my '18 4Runner? Oh, or better yet, anyone willing to sell me some shorter brackets?

Thanks ahead of time.

I did the same but the opposite! Want to trade brackets?
I can't even install mine due to this issue, PM Sent.

Sounds like you guys got it sorted out. If not, contact a local Toyota parts department and just ask. They’ll give you all the info you need.

A local Runner is running the lower steps on a newer rig. It looks behind ridiculous.

I have a 2010 and while the lower step is super functional and actually helps, it really kills ground clearance. I went N-Fabs and trimmed my side skirts to make them fit right. Less functional but I also don’t have to take my steps off every time I go off-road.

Tried sending a reply to your PM but I'm not sure if it went thru. PM me your email address and let's exchange photos. That way we can both be sure it's the parts we're looking for. Bolt holes and a tape measure next to the brackets should work good.
