running boards/slider/steps ... & grabar

Just picked up my '16 SR5. I will be doing mild off road but nothing requiring rock sliders, for that purpose [just fire trails, fields, shallow streams for hunting and fishing in MO]. Still, I'd like to put something under the doors to make it easier to get in and out.

What do you recommend?

Also, when I had my Wranger, there was company that created a Grab Bar that was hung in the corner where the windshield/A-pillar/roof meet. Any such item for the driver's side of a T4R?

Seriously though, once I no longer have a garage, I'll probably be grabbing a gobi and welding some external grab bars on unless someone talks me out of it:

Man, I've got to know:
Why do so many want/need grab handles? Serious question.
Is everyone short? Fat? Old? Infirm? Terrible shape?

Guys I'm 53 and have no problem getting into the 4Runner. A few years ago with some busted ribs and broken shoulder yeah, it took a minute to get in but even after several beers I even get into the passenger side just fine. Yes, I admit, if parked off camber then I might use the steering wheel on occasion lol.
 
LOL I took my sliders off this week to repaint them. My kids, wife and sister in law all noticed .... truck is too high for them. I said nothing it was funny watching their reactions getting inside !

I can understand kids and old people but these guys are talking about for themselves! I guess I could design some type of jib crane personal lift to help them up...

I'm 5'6". I'm guessing anything shorter than 5'9" or so will have a much more comfortable time getting in with a handle.

The Grabar solution in the JK was ideal.

My daughter complained last week when I took the running boards off (She's 3) to go off roading. For a week all I heard was "when do I get my steps back?" Lol.

My wife is 5'6" and she loved the Nfab step bars for the 6 months or so I used them.
 
I think that some people just have a burning desire to add stuff to the vehicle in an effort to 'personalize' it, and running boards, grab handles, plastidip, bugflectors, etc. are just low hanging fruit. Especially where those purchases can be rationalized as a matter of practical necessity, eg 'I'd better get those running boards just in case I ever have to take my 80 year old grandmother to bingo.' Death inducing 'nose dive' is another popular one on these pages.

I don't need it, but my wife is 5' 3" with health problems, so she uses the grab on the passenger side and still needs a step. I have some full-plate sliders on order from BudBuilt, hopefully that will be sufficient for her.
 
I didn't think I needed sliders either and my 4Runner came with running boards. Running boards saved my rocker panels a few times when I least expected any trouble. Now they don't look nice anymore so I'm thinking about those sliders: Slee - Toyota 4Runner Sliders
So in my opinion even if you think that you don't need sliders it's good to have them because one day you'll need them : )

I've got four years on you and I've never figured this one out either. I did put on some Toyota running boards for my twin 6 year olds who actually need them though.

I'm again 'guessing' that if you are 5' 9" or taller you probably don't need either.

Funny opposite problem, people who are taller have problems fitting into the new Miata ND. There are discussions about lowering the seats, removing padding from the seat, raising the rear view mirror... ect....

I'm 5'10" so I'm not vertically challenged and have fast twitch muscles so I don't have any problem getting into or out of my 4Runner.
