Hey all,
So I currently have the JBL system, but dislike how much it sucks with anything other than a JBL HU. As stated, I’m planning on running new speaker wire, but don’t know what I’m doing when it comes to the ‘audio’ game and I’m hoping to get some help from any ‘pros’ here.
I bought some speaker wire with great reviews on amazon. It’s ‘oxygen free’ copper 16gauge. I checked, no oxygen that I could see, heh. I also went to a junkyard and pulled some OEM pigtail wire harnesses for the front speakers/tweeters and rear speakers. My plan was to connect the new wires to those OEM plugs and running the other end to the metra 70-1761. Should I actually try and find electrical pins that will work with the metra and OEM harnesses? My concern is I got this new spiffy wires that don’t have any oxygen, and they’re going to get spliced into the oxygen filled (I assume) OEM and metra harnesses? Or am I over thinking this?
Also I’m putting some Pioneer TS-A6966R 3 way speakers up front and I think maybe some Rockford Fosgate r165x3 in the back, if they fit. My understanding is that 3 way speakers have the midrange bass and tweeters all in one, correct? And that the OEM speakers up front are component speakers, because they have a separate tweeter? Is it a problem running 3way speakers up front and back? And I assume I should not run wires to or replace the OEM tweeters because I should be set with my 3 way speakers?
Lastly, I’m likely going to go aftermarket with a Sony radio or maybe keep my scion radio. If I go aftermarket there’s the RCA outputs for an amp. I don’t want to deal with an amp and think I should be ok with just the headunit powering everything, but if I decide to add a small sub, would I just need a mono amp? And then run the sub wires to the amp, an RCA wire from the head unit to the amp and the power wire to the battery?
