1996 4runner V6 3.4 no thermostat!?
Hey I just bought a 1996 with 217,000 miles, been driving it for a week and decided to start some maintenance. Drained coolant, opened t-stat housing, and all that was in there was the top of the thermostat with seal. The spring/ body of thermostat is missing!? I replaced it with an OE Toyota one, and now it's overheating; temp gauge is pinned to red after driving for 15 minutes, top hose is bubbling and way too hot, heater in truck is super hot. Just replaced the "modified" t-stat today and it's running fine. Accelerates well, heat gauge is normal, heater is operating at acceptable temp. Wtf, has anyone heard of this!?
