Rustoleum Hydrophobic Neverwet Spray- Has anyone tried it?

Probably not something you can use on your paint as the website references it drying to a haze... Wasn't there another thread on a similar product a few months back?

If I didn't already have undercoating I'd investigate it more to see about using it. Looks pretty amazing though and I'm sure all those in the video will make a cool million or two.

I bought a can just to see what the deal was. For 25 bucks i figured it would be neat to try. I did my work boots first just to see the effect without spraying it on something I care about. Basically it works as advertised but there are a few things that you need to know. It leaves a frosted colour film. So that rules out spraying anything that you need to see through, and anything that you concerned about a colour change (it turned my boots blueish, as they started out brown.) It wears off over time, the spray (1 coat) on my boots lasted about 2 weeks. It breaks down in UV light, as most paint will, and it does not make a waterproof barrier. It just causes liquid to bead off. if you submerge something coated, water will still get in. Overall I still think it serves a purpose, any liquid beads off right away, I just haven't thought of any obvious automotive applications yet. It comes as a 2 stage system. 2 aerosol cans that will do about 10 sq ft. So for 25 bucks you don't exactly get enough to coat much. I still think it is a cool product though and I hope Rust-o-leum puts some more R&D into it and makes a clear version.

A conversation on another forum made me think of this stuff and a possible automotive application. Some vehicles now have sound dampening wheel well liners that are a fibrous material (similar to a moving blanket.. that's the best example I have). These things tend to retain water and I was considering coating them with a hydrophobic spray to minimize the water draining on my garage floor.
