yeah they just repainted the small area. But they blended it well. I would have taken it back if they didn't, and It was under warranty so I paid nothing.

Awesome, good to know. Thanks! I'll let them know to put something between the chrome and the paint.

I had the same rust spot on my 07 when I bought it, I also had the dealership fix it (the same as the above post). It looks nearly flwless -- good enough for me!

Water, they just ran it through the carwash when I came to look at it.

Washed her today and yup I have the rust/paint chip spot also. Its on the left side of mine and I will be taking it back when I get a free moment.

I checked out the TSB list and couldn't find it...dealer didn't mention one. Would be good to find out because even if the stealer puts some paint on there, if there's an underlying issue with the chrome part that is causing the damage in teh first place it'll just happen again.

Exterior – Exterior Panels/Trim – “Exterior: Back Door Garnish: Removal”.

1. Remove back door garnish sub–assembly.
A. Remove the assist strap hole cover.
B. Remove the assist strap assembly RH.
C. Remove the back door trim panel.
D. Remove the service hole cover LH.

Repair 2. Remove back door service hole cover LH.

A. Remove the 6 nuts.

B. Disengage the 2 clips by pulling the garnish, and remove the garnish.
3. Replace the back door outside garnish sub–assembly with:

Without the back monitor: P/N 76801–35461

With the back monitor: P/N 76801–35471
NOTE:

Due to the varying degree of stain that can develop, some vehicles may need to be
repainted (or stain will need to be cleaned).

fwiw, my new-to-me New England (salty) '06 shows no signs of that anywhere.

However I do have a bit of it underneath that I'll be wire brushing and treating. That's very normal for up here on an undercarriage.

Same here living in the road salt capitol of the US.

Ewwww, it must be the chrome contributing some rust.

Doubt it. The chrome garnish is plastic. So body colored or chromed, the same thing will happen.
