S.S. Minnow Build Thread

Finally got her running right! Took a month of new parts, new timing and lots of help from before mentioned SV Dude. Drove around the block a few times and the 3.slo with 3.56 gears pushes those 35's without an issue. Gonna take her offroad to be sure, but don't be surprised if I show up in Moab sporting new 35" tires. I'm thinking I will get the BFG AT KO again. The mud's are great, but she still has some DD to do and I have been perfectly happy with the BFG AT's I have now.

I'm so glad SV Dude moved next to you. This thread just gets better and better.

His build has nothing to do with me. Bill has done pretty much all the work himself. Maybe I have been a little bit of a motivator but I doubt that. He has been wheeling way before I moved here. The only real thing that I have done is help diagnose an engine problem that he could have done himself with the FSM and the help of the forum.

It is nice to have a runner buddy though :D

Returned to the scene of the crime! Let's just say we drove around it this time.

Ran great still on the 35's till it was pointed out that my right rear shock wasn't attached. I forgot to put the large washer on.

Had fun anyway running up and down the hills. I did have to use a little 4lo, but not much.

Just for fun flex shots (sorta in my case.)

Toyota, Suzuki Samurai, and Jeep Off Road Parts

So it was pointed out to me that twin sticks are virtually plug and play. Guess what just jumped to the top of the "What's Next?" list? I rarely actually need 4wd with the rear locker, but that 2lo would be damn useful! The main reason I even use 4lo is simply for the lower gearing. Update to come soon.

Remember that you have the v6 that no one likes to make off road parts for...

Trail Gear said:
Twin stick shifters will NOT work with the following:

W56 C or D model transmissions with a single transfer case
Stock chain driven V6 transfer case
Rotated dual case adapters
Single transfer case applications with combined tranny and t-case shifter base

You would need to swap in a gear driven case, which make it quite a bit more expensive and a little less plug and play

Marlin makes one, but says its out of stock.

Twin Stick Kit | Marlin Crawler, Inc.

Something to think about though, If you ever want to add lower tcase gears, or duals, you wont be able to use the chain drive case. So why buy parts for something your not going to keep. Might as well start collecting parts to put a gear drive case with 4.7s in... Thats all.

Agreed. You can't do anything with that chain-drive case, so might as well wait until you swap it out before adding other stuff there. You'll need a gear-drive case for lower gearsets, even if you only go with a single case.

Well I went to get an alignment today. As soon as we got it up on the rack it was immediately apparent that I need to replace the passenger side idler arm, inner and outer tie rod ends and the adjustment sleeve. YAY!!!!

Not what I planned for today.

Your lucky that your inners and outers both need replaced, that way you can just order a new adjustment sleeve and not have to worry about breaking them free from that sonnuva*****.

Toss the better of the TREs and sleeves in your spares bag.

Relatively easy to put in. Things to remember: outer tie rod end threads counter clockwise (backwards). I spent 30 minutes wondering why it wouldn't thread the sleeve.

Off to get the alignment in the morning.

By the way, the shop quoted me $500 to replace the tie rod ends and idler arm. I spent $120 in parts and the alignment will only be $50 (on special). Total savings=$330!!! Don't pay someone what you can do yourself.

Requested back Yukon locker these days. Had an excellent discuss with Scott at Dependent Offroad. He will be setting up the locker next Wednesday! Probably do the top side fender simultaneously.

Getting excellent circulation cat set up today! The insane are removed on the fresh air indicator.I'll probably have that set at the muffler store.

Last factor for these days is oil modify and lubricant. For all the perform I can do myself, I have always discovered it simpler to just pay the $29.95 and get it done at a store.
