S.S. Minnow Build Thread

Wow! Great day out wheeling the Minnow!!! There is no point in building these things if you don't get them out of the driveway.

All around good times! That rear locker allows for some amazing climbs with little effort. The BFG KM's are a great tire. I did have a few power issues heading up some hills in 2hi. That will be fixed when I eventually get 4.7 T-case gears and 2lo capabilities.
 
I wouldn't call this building as much as it repairing, but a fun day. When I put the lift on, I tore the 21 year old CV boots on the passenger side. I've had the new CV sitting in the garage for a while now, but hadn't been in a hurry to get it in. My 13 year old son (slave labor 1) says to me, "I'll put it in". Who am I to argue?

Other than a little wiggling help from me to get the new one in, he did the whole job by himself. I was very proud!
 
That is really good to hear. Guess it is time to find him an old beater to start building. By the time he can get his license he will have built a nice rig. Maybe he could get high school credit for advanced auto mechanics as a freshman. :zoom:

Funny you mention that, because that is the plan. We're waiting for a Supra or Celica to drop in our lap for the right price. Not in a hurry though. He can't get a license for 3 more years. Although if he keeps helping me with the Minnow, I might just let him have it and I will get a first gen for my next build.

I kid, I kid. I actually have always had 2nd gen or 3rd gen pick-ups but I always got owned by the 1985 series 1st gen. Damn you 1985.

I have 2 adult sons and neither one has any interest in mechanics, autos or wheeling :cry:

Keep watching the obituaries, one day there will be on heck of a garage sell with all my tools
 
Project day!!!! Started the paint job! I won't tell you about the top half until it is done! Need to get the doors to match the rest of the car. I used the rattle can version of the Rustoleum truck bed liner. I like the finish better than the roll on stuff.
