Hey ,
I'm new here and glad to be apart of this great organization of 4Runner Brothers and Sisters. Well I just ordered that Coleman Safari Rack from costco for $74.95 what a deal. The question is the rails I should use for my 1987 4Runner should be the gutter type ? Any help would be appreciated.

I figured it out. my 87 runner has rain gutters on the shell portion and I will attach rain gutter rails ($49.99 from prolineracks.com) then the coleman safari rack on top of that. Order your $74 coleman rack from costco before they decide not to sell it any more.. Best luck:awais:

the rack ? or rails ? Theres a thread in this section about safari racks with pics on them, thats how I learned about the coleman rack. Im not even a member of costco and I was able to order it online without any extra charges, $80.80 out the door with free delivery which takes 10 days but hey free is free.:D

Here is a pic. of it installed on my '01. Not the best pic, but the only one I have here at work.

Coleman/SportRack Basket

IRONLUNG,

Great idea with the T4R sticker on the fairing. I just ordered another sticker for mine as well.

As discussed in other threads, this Coleman/SportRack roof basket is a great value.

I can confirm that Yakima shovel/axe brackets, Hi-lift jack brackets, and LoadStops (and probably other Yakima accessories)will work on this rack.

When I previously contacted SportRack, rackoutfitters.com (who gave a great review of this basket), and Yakima - I was either told they didn't know if the above Yakima accessories would work on the SportRack/Coleman basket or that they were NOT compatible. Since the Yakima Load/MegaWarrior series and this rack both utilize the same diameter tube construction, I took the chance and ordered the above accessories.

I especially like the LoadStops since I can now transport lumber, ladders, boats, or other long items on top of the roof basket. Of course they LoadStops have to be spaced on the top crossbars in between the small vertical bars, but that small adjustment isn't an issue.

For $75 I may have to buy another of these baskets from Costco for use as a spare!

Thanks Gromulus/Eddie

I haven't even thought that far ahead Gromulus. However I will def. keep that in mind. I too noticed that the dimensions were the same and I ended up getting the cargo net since Costco does not ship one w/ the basket. I had hoped that the Yakima locks would work w/ the Coleman rack but no go. All in all a decent basket for a decent price; nothing hardcore....some day though but for now this will do.
