Safety Connect/Anti-Theft Question

Ok my fellow 5th Gen 4-Runner fans, I'm in need of some expert advice regarding the safety connect, anti-theft, and the push-button start. My car is a 2010 Limited, and I've signed up for the free one-year of service. I don't have the remote start, however.

I got my insurance company (State Farm), to fax me over the qualifications for the Anti-Theft Device discount. There are 5 categories and the discount is higher the higher category we can get to. So my question is, since I'm not that familiar, how high can I go up to sign off on to get the discount?

I'll list the categories:

Cat 1 - Satisfied because I know the alarm device has a horn that is activated by a door.

Cat 2 - Both a fuel cut-off, ignition cut-off, or starter cut-off to prevent car from starting or running AND an alarm device with auto shut-off PLUS TWO of the following: glass, vibration, motion, or ultrasonic sensor.

Cat 3 - Cat 2 PLUS hood restraint AND backup battery.

Cat 4 - Cat 3 PLUS a passive method of activating or deactivation the alarm system (activated automatically when the driver turns ignition off and removes key)

Cat 5 - Cat 4 PLUS stolen vehicle recovery system.

Now, I'm pretty sure I can satisfy Cat 1
and Cat 5 since Safety Connect has a stolen vehicle recovery system (however does it automatically notify them if the car is started by any means than the use of the ignition key?). But I'm not sure about Cat 2-4, and it stinks I have to satisfy them to get to Cat 5.

I'd appreciate help from anyone. I can always call Toyota Customer Care, but I figured I'd give it a shot here first. If I can't get the discount, it's not a big deal.

I have definitions for any of the required items if anyone needs them, they are just too long to type.

Are you sure about this? Did you get the optional alarm system? I remember someone saying that you can lock your 4R (window down half way), reach in, unlock the door and open it from the outside and no horns will sound.

Ok....My SR5 does not have the safety connect, although Toyota's site says it is standard in it (discussed in another thread, not getting into that here)

The anti-theft alarm with engine immobilizer is my concern. My SR5 has this option, wanted a 3rd spare key, $250+ at the dealership (and they did not charge me labor to program it because I bought it there). If you notice your description says nothing about the 'alarm' sytem. I know when I lock my doors and open from the outside I do not get an alarm. Wondering if they are 2 independent systems. I know I can get the optional viper alarm system installed, but I am not sure that come standard on the LE.

I am curious if someone with a LE can please test this out, 'arm' your alarm from your keys, with a window down, reach in and open the door with the handle, does an horn/alarm sound???

I just looked @ toyota.com - which is where I lifted the above content... SR5's don't have the Safety Connect... are you sure you don't mean:

My 4Runner doesn't have Safety Connect and it arrived 2 weeks ago. I picked it up the day it got to the dealership from port, so I have my doubts that you'll find too many on the lots that have SC. Now, I did get one out of allocation instead of the one I ordered, as the ordered one was still a month or so out. So, if you ordered in late Jan, you may or may not have SC.

My sequential number (per the last 6 digits of the VIN) is 014591.

Yup... when I looked at the specs online, the 2wd model d defaulted for the SR5, not the 4x4 - you're right. But I haven't seen any SR5s here in Colorado with SOS. Weird, eh?
