Satellite head unit ?

I had SIRIUS in the vehicle I just traded for my '08 4Runner SR5

The 4RNNR I now have has the factory AM/FM/CD Player, and I do not have a Sat. button on this head unit (plus I have the radio controls on the steering wheel, which would be nice to keep)

Local dealer wants $2066 for a new factory AM/FM/CD/SAT head unit

YIKES


What are my options ?

did you go double DIN ?

Last fall I added a 2 year subscription, so I would like to have my SAT radio programs back in my ride

You can get a MUCH better head unit for waaayyy less than $2k!
Almost any decent new unit you look at will have the capability of sat radio. I just bought and installed a Clarion CX609 which has been discontinued but had all the features I wanted. It has a plug on the back for sat radio. You buy the adapter seperate and you're ready to go. Google whatever brand you're thinking about and you should find the sat radio option will cost more, but be a possible add-on. Hope that helps! If you go double din and want something w/ sat radio but no DVD or Navigation, you should be able to find one for $500 or less. At least for a starting point. Good luck!

BTW, does your ride have the steering wheel radio controls ? Does your aftermarket HU work with it or is there a special harness you need >?

Sorry I wasn't very clear I did not get the satelite option, but have the plug if I ever want to expand in the future.
There are a few parts you will need if you are going to install it yourself. My local shop said $55-$60 to install it for me. Had I known how long it would take, I would have done that! Now that it's done I can say I learned a lot...like READ the directions! LOL
You will need a Steering Wheel Interface plug, wiring harness (JBL or Non JBL) and a few other parts if you want to keep good reception with the FM radio. The plugs and adapters are another $150 or so, just for the heads up.

For the JBL units:

The stock radio has two antenna's and the new head unit will only have one plug. You'll have to buy a "y" adapter for a "standard motorola antenna plug"-two female to one male. Then you'll have to splice a "standard motorola" plug end in place of the smaller existing plug coming out of the dash. Kind of a hassle, but it'll keep good reception. Mine is better than stock right now.
The step by step process for the SWI jack and the harness are included and pretty thurough...just read them. There are several other threads on here about installation and such as well.
