Savage Offroad Skidplates

I just got my Savage Offroad skid plates installed by Roy Lewis the owner of Savage Offroad (BTW he is located in SoCal in Yucaipa, CA 92399). I love the design super beefy 3/16 inch steel. Counter sunk bolts and a five piece design which makes oil changes a breeze rather than a work out. We sprayed em with cheap bedliner pre install, they come bare steel. $500 for the whole set.

Wow those look awesome! That's a great price too! I can't really tell from Your pics but is there one that covers the cat pretty good to protect it from those skumbag thrives that get off on stealing catilac converters?

I am pretty sure you can get the full Bud-Built undercarriage set as well for $500 or $550.

It does not cover the Cat. Roy is working on a gas tank skid but does not offer one yet. He will have to get it done soon because his stock gas tank skid is so hammered!!!

all those parts and it doesnt cover the cat or the fuel tank and cost $500!? i got my budbuilts for $500, and there is only two parts to it, and it covers the cat i dont remeber how much i paid for my lil skip tank skid but anyhow my point is, that looks like a lot of pieces that do nothing, if it doesnt cover the fuel tank and or the cat.

The kid, To each his own. these and bud builts both have their advantages and disadvantages. I am just really pleased with mine.

I think Savage has better ventalation to bleed off heat from under the rig and I like that I only have to take off one small plate rather than a huge piece in order to do an oil change. Thats my opinion. Both companies make a great product that help us have more fun!!!

I thought about these but the laser etching in the steel made me change my mind. Similar to the skid-row front skid, it creates a weak point for the metal to bend and torque. I have a skid row front skid and I hate it. The first outing with it in the rocks completely torqued it and it is a complete pita to get on and off. I'm not saying this is a bad product but laser etching into the metal is a bad idea for something that, for me, is gonna get beat up and put to the test.

He said that covering the CAT made tranny temps go up an average of 40 degrees which obviously is not good for the tranny by any means. He is thinking of coming up with a piece that is like two mini sliders to protect the CAT. His theory is that a new CAT is way cheaper than a tranny rebuild so thus no full coverage Skid Plate. FYI

I know it sounds lame but the real answer is ...kind of. Before I had on the final product, Roy from Savage loaned me his prototypes for a difficult trail run before for the final product install. Essentially the same thing. They worked fantastic! Using the prototypes is what sold me on getting the official thing.

Has anyone actually confirmed transmission temps increasing with the Bud Builts? I'm looking to purchase skids and I like the Savage ones but I don't like the laser etched "Savage" on it. Same reason I don't like the Skidd Row ones. The bud builts just look cleaner to me.

Any bud built owners confirm increased tranny temps?

Looks great but they should add a cover over the cat to prevent damage but MAINLY to prevent theft. Don't cha think? But man those things are sick!
