Too bad I missed out on this donation thread until now, I would have gladly dipped into the monthly beer fund to help out.

I am on the same boat with Photo Bucket and their change in TOC's. I have been on Flickr now for a while, but I left all of my build thread links as my Photo Bucket account so I wouldn't have to change them. Looks like I am going back through everything and swapping to Flickr. It would be easier to pay, but I am not giving a dime to a company that without notice (at least not to me) changes their plans like that to force people to pay money to keep their photos "live". It'll take time, but it will all be reposted, maybe solely on my website for people to reference :thumb3:

I am waiting to send the "this is BS" email to Photo Bucket until I make sure I have all of those photos backed up! Ha!

Same here, PB screwed me as well. Not that any of my threads were special or even good but it still pisses me off. Antman's threads were very helpful on a lot of stuff so it would really suck to lose all that.

I think I speak for many when I say this but you are the man when it comes to helping others out! Many come to this forum and only take but you sir are the definition of give and take. You probably give much more than you take and you probably give much more than the average person. Your knowledge is invaluable and the members here all know that. I'm sure if the funds were set to double or triple what it was, i feel confident we would of reached the goal.

That said, whatever personal issues you are going through, I hope it is nothing serious and I hope you get everything worked out sir! Best of luck to you and we'll see you back here soon!

Both are good options but I highly recommend using flickr which is also free. A lot of photographers use it for their photos and it is backed by Yahoo if I am not mistaken so they have the bandwidth and won't pull a Photobucket and hold images ransom.

Definitely going to check out Flickr.

Basic sub is $40 a year but honestly, it's worth it. Unlimited pics. Secure. No ads. Super fast. Well structured. It's a small business owned by the guy who runs www.dgrin.com and Adventure Rider and it's what he does, so issues get resolved right now and you can actually communicate with him.

I have never "trusted" any of those third party image hosts, not for anything that isn't disposable anyway. They change their minds as much as the wind blows, or shutter their doors just as often.

If Antman has his photos or can get them back from PB. I would just gather all the photos and tell PB to screw themselves.

You could take all the photos and simply give sets of them to volunteer forum members to recreate the various Mod threads.

EX:
User A - Oil change - send them the oil change photos. They cut / paste your existing text and insert the photos and recreate and offline version.

Once complete it gets sent back to Antman.

Or.. simply use the $400 to pay a local kid on school vacation to gather and type it all back in.

Then find a paid place to put the photos. That way you are totally covered.

Really a shame to have to give in to their extortion.

Unbelievable! Scumbags. So there was little to no warning? Several complaints to all of your state att. generals might be in order. As well as calls to the local news. Did I say unbelievable?!! It probably wont do any good but PB at the very least needs to be called out. Negative publicity and bad reviews is probably the only recourse. We might need an open gofund me account for other threads in jeopardy. I have a hungy $$$ ready to go! Sorry I was late! I joined this forum the minute after I read Antmans oil change thread.

Looks like a deliberate move on the part of photo bucket on all of their accounts. Funny thing is, what good is a hosting service if no one can see the photos?

I wouldn't pay them a damn penny for what they are calling "3rd party hosting" That's a complete load of crap at $400 a year. $20-$40 a year maybe, but $400?

photobucketsucks.com (or whatever) is available for $1 a month w/hosting for the first year. (godaddy) for $400 you could get at least 5-10 years of hosting.

Now I'll use the fundme money to restore the account and then work on trying to get everything swapped out. Jesus what a mess.

Just curious,

Are you locked out of retrieving your own photos until paying the ransom?

You can still access the photos, but they cannot be linked on any third party websites (i.e. forums). So, they are still there... Their move has made the whole point of their site that they will store your photos versus storing and sharing them. I am currently downloading my photos from PB in their current albums to upload them to Flickr. At this point I think that I am going to upload the installation / build photos, but the adventures will be dead for now. It's going to take weeks of "a little at a time" work to get things back where they were. The rest will eventually he hosted on my square space hosted site (linked below).

Some geeky geek could make good coin if they could figure out how to change all the links automatically. Honestly I don't think I have the patience to go through my build thread to change all the links to my flickr account.

To those who didn't get a chance to see my thread, it was beyond awesome. The only annoying part is that I had picture proof that most of Antman's mods were done by me first. Bastard even took credit for the folding mirrors. Too bad you guys can no longer see how I did it first but it was awesome.
