Thanks Antman. I took a look, looks like you can feed a cable through without removing anything. When you say pull the lower dash loose, does it just pull away by hand and then snap back into place afterwards?

Yup- but just the top part. The bottom will stay together- but you will be able to gain enough space to get your hands in there.

It's not hard to do but you should get a copy of the repair manual to show where screws, bolts and clips are located. The zip allows browsing and I think is better than the PDF version but get both and decide which works for you. This is provided by our own Nashman. There are other documentation links in the modifications sticky thread.

If you need to make an extension you should be able to buy an RJ 45 conn pair (male and female) and make your own. Just wire it pin for pin. Get connectors with backshells that provide strain relief.

for those who put their on their steering column:

I'm thinking of putting my SG2 like you guys did. I also did this on my last tacoma, and the only tape that would keep the SG2 tight was very sticky. About a year later, when removing the tape to replace it, paint from the steering column came with the tape.

Did you guys had this problem?

try these 3M Command strips. they remove cleanly (unlike most adhesives) and are basically like a "Smart Velcro". you can remove the item, fiddle with it, and put it back on its mount easy-peasy. i use them all time for AV/IT/household/car stuff.
