Not the best price I have ever seen, but good enough to pull the trigger on this. I have one in my Tundra and love it. I plan on using this on both my 2001 and 2006 4Runner.

I really think the way to go is to use a Bluetooth OBD II reader and a phone app like Torque Pro. WAYYYY more affordable. I was going to buy a Scan Gauge when a member suggested the Bluetooth/Phone App. I spent $22 on the reader and $5 for the Torque Pro app.

I can't say how well it works for Apple I-Phones but it works great for Android. And, you don't have to deal with routing a cord or figure out how you're going to mount the Scan Gauge in your rig.

99-02 have trans temp sensors that will report an accurate temp to the computer rather than just light an "idiot" light on the dash if you overheat your transmission. Supposedly, the idiot light is set for 300 degrees, which is comical. At 300 degrees, your trans fluid is toast. I guess the light means, "STOP and Get Your Rig Towed" because you're going to torch your automatic transmission.

Bluetooth apps have limitations for longterm logging due to the connect/disconnect...unless you have a dedicated phone or tablet, however the enginlink iPhone app will allow custom gauges and the trans temp is one of them.

Also, be weary of the Bluetooth adapters they never shut off so if you leave it in the port it will slowly drain the battery. Ask me how I know lol.

I wondered about the battery draw. I guess I should disconnect it if I'm not going to be driving it for a few days. But, does the Scan Gauge continue to draw power as well if you keep it connected?

I don't do any long term logging. I'm mainly concerned with monitoring my trans temp, coolant temp and charging volts.

@mandtaco was telling me they shut off with the truck.
