A standard CDR is 700mb and I usually get about 9 CDs on there at 192kbps.

That's 9 CDs on one CDR because they are converted from .wav to mp3 files, right?

I don't know what format they are on Audio CDs but .wav files can compress more than mp3s. I used to use 2 different programs to convert audio cds to mp3s but now I use WMP v10 and it rips fast and easy. And it's a free program from Microsoft.

Ship mode?

I read in one of these Scion HU threads that prior to shipping, the unit should be put in "Ship Mode"

I just one a unit on eBay and want to inform the seller of this. What is the procedure to put the unit into ship mode? does it need to be powered, or is this something that can be toggled when the unit is removed from a vehicle?

You only need to put it in ship mode if it's a 6cd changer. The single disc units are fine.

I forgot the procedure for putting the changer in ship mode but I believe it's printed on top of the HU.

yeah, it is the changer, but if the instructions are on top, that'll work.

BTW... Welcome to the forums!

If they don't ship it in "ship mode" the radio will work but the changer will give you a "ERROR 3" code. That's what happened to my changer. I read that if you plug it in and turn it upside down and shake it gently while it's on, it might fix it. I haven't tried so I don't know if it works or not but something I read.

I just got my T1804 today.

Dumb question, but is this the model of the 6 cd changer of the single disc unit?

finally got my unit installed yesterday. I gotta say, even though there were seemingly way too many panels to remove just to get to the head unit, everything came apart and went back together with ease.

couple of questions:

1) is the second antenna connection necessary? I didn't feel like drilling and an earlier post implied that it wasn't needed. I don't know what it's for as i get flawless AM and FM reception without it.

2) Is there a way to make the ID3 tag information scroll across the screen? Currently it displays the artist, and if you hit text, it'll show the next field in the tag, and so on, but it would be cool if it could scroll Artist/title/album without manual intervention.

1) Not sure if it is "necessary," but a few people swear that they get better reception by drilling the hole. Since I took all the time to install the unit, I figured I might as well drill the hole, in case it really does make a difference.

2) I'm not sure, but I don't think you can make it scroll across the display.

well i finally installed the scion head unit. While i was at it, I decided to install the IPOD2CAR and mounts for the iPod and my cell phone.

it SOUNDS like as long as it is not a JBL based system, and it is double din in size, it should work?

I think I remember seeing some 3rd gen guys over at yotatech install it in their rigs. Don't know the details, ie connectors fitting.

Some 3rd gens have an external amp. This could be easy or hard depending on which kind of amp it has. If it the amp has the basic 10 and 6-pin input, it should work fine, just remove the amp and plug in the 10 and 6-pin conncectors into the new scion unit.

The next thing you're going to have to worry about is the dash opening. The 3rd gen's headunit is 7 1/16" wide, while the Scion unit is 7 7/8". You'll need to trim off a little part of the dash cover to accomodate for the increase of width.

I hope that helps you out.

hey guys... i just installed the scion HU with the iPod controlls today. sounds great. To whoever wrote/found that write up about taking apart the dash THANK YOU. I have one question tho, does anyone know where the wire for the iPod plugs into... is it the changer port? My wires that were sent to me seem to be missing one piece... the piece that plugs directly into the HU. If i can find out where it plugs into, it is one step closer to getting the right part.
