Scion HU

I just finished this mod two weeks ago. The '06 HU (the one with the knob in the middle) can be had on e-bay for around $100.00. I paid $75.00 for mine and then sold my old HU from an '05 Sport for $41.00. I, unlike others went to an audio shop for the install of the new HU. If you get an '06 single desk, there is a very thin plate where the antenna plug is. Bend that back...and there is the second antenna plug for the 4Runners. You can then just cut off that plate with shears or a dremmel or whatever!
For the cost it's a mmuch better sounding unit. And it looks good too!

This post and the previous helped quite a bit!!

Thanks guys.

Looks like I need to do a little timmin' :)

Glad I could help. But, plug it in and make sure it works before you start trimming!

thinking about jumping on the bandwagon and gettin the scion HU. I haven't seen too much talk about the 06 model here except from "cknsls@adelphia"
my questions
1. Will the 06 scion 6 disc HU work or will i just have to stick w/ the single disc. (someone here bought the 6disc and it didn't work for him not/sure why was it broken or just not compatible)
2. do both the 6disc & single disc 06 scion HU's have wma capability along with the mp3 capability. (most of my music is on wma format, and it takes forever to convert to mp3)

i have an 04 SR5 w/ stock cd/casette

on another note...will the 06 4runner standard cd/casette HU work w/ the 04? (i know this one has wma capability)

they should all work in the 4runner w/ the stock system, although I dont think they made an 06 6 disk model which means no volume knob but the 04 and 05 should work. Also I believe they all work with both WMA and MP3. And I definately Reccomend the switch to the Scion HU, I cant believe the difference it makes for being a "stock" headunit.

o yea... now someone ANSWER MY QUESTION!!!
AHHH its killing me!
sorry
hope that helps,
Ben

thanks for the info pirate. Yeah, i just looked at the scion website and there is no 6disc for 06. so i think i'll stick w/ the single disc 06 model because i like the knob. i've been planning on doing this mod ever since i bought my truck back in dec 03, but the question of wma compatibility held me back. now I have no excuse. thanks again!!!

I hope you find the answer to your question, cuz i'm hoping to get the HU w/ ipod also

hey guys... i just installed the scion HU with the iPod controlls today. sounds great. To whoever wrote/found that write up about taking apart the dash THANK YOU. I have one question tho, does anyone know where the wire for the iPod plugs into... is it the changer port? My wires that were sent to me seem to be missing one piece... the piece that plugs directly into the HU. If i can find out where it plugs into, it is one step closer to getting the right part.
thanks alot
Ben

When I installed the iPod2Car with the Scion headunit i needed a wire harness from Toyota. AB-TOYT here is a link to the picture of the harness i used.

This plugged into the cd changer port on the back of the headunit.

Hope this helps.

I dont know if i missed it, but will the Scion HU work in a 2001 4Runner SR5? Ive read about everyone else who has the 03-05 4Runners, just want to make sure its the same for a 2001 model. I have the stock cd player with the tape deck, the double DIN set up. My stock radio doesnt like to play burnd CD's anymore, and im looking for a double DIN radio that wil play MP3 cd's and also satalite ready. Will it just plug and play? thanks for the help guys.

No hope for the 10 speaker system?

Hi Gang,

I'm new here. I used to have a 1986 four runner, and last week made the mistake of buying a 2005. I understand that I can't upgrade to the SCION head unit? What's the problem? Will the wiring harness not work? Is it the Amp? What if I pull the Amp?

I am livid about the inability of this vehicle to be upgraded in audio. I have an Alpine with sirius radio and I have the iPod adapter. I understand that it may not be possible to use any of this either. I would love some answers.

Why does Toyota have to make it so hard? Are they really making that much money on radio upgrades that they want to hose the consumer?

Thanks
Sincerely,
Bill

I just installed an 06' Scion HU model #1807 (out of an 06' tc), in my 04' Sport. Only mod required was drilling a 3/8" hole in the sheetmetal for the 2nd antenna. The aluminium heat sink does not need drilling on this model. No problems, one hour install time, huge sound improvement. If any of you were considering this mod, but had reservations like me, don't worry, it will not disappoint. I found my HU on scionlife.com for $100.00 shipped. Best $100.00 mod I ever made.

Just installed the 06 Scion HU. Looks good, sounds good, and now i can play mp3s off cd or my ipod... Life is too sweet.

Options for JBL 10 speaker system

Any suggestions on the options available if you have the 10 speaker JBL system?

Are the vehicles that much different just because of the radio?

I could really use some answers. Thanks.

Sincerely,
Bill

You can stick any stereo in the 4runner. It may not be plug-in-play and may require buying a wiring harness and soldering lots of wires but the T4R is not any different from any other vehicle. Replacing the JBL stereo with the Scion is not a good option due to the numerous wiring differences. I once placed an Alpine HU in the runner than I replaced it with a Scion. So in total I have had three different stereos in mine.

anyone stick one in a 97 4runner. did it work. I am selling my 06 HU and someone asked if it fit in the 97 4Runner.
thanks
Ben

What's up fellas? I just bought an '06 Scion unit (the one without the AUX input thingy) for our '05 SR5. Can someone tell me if its possible to interface both a Sirius tuner and an iPod through the CD changer input? If so, what equipment/wire harnesses do I need? Thanks for the help.

03-05 scion HU & .wma

I know the 06 scion HU is .wma compatible. Does anyone know for sure that the 03-05 scion HU is or is not .wma compatible.
