Scion HU

Damn, this is a long thread!

I think I got it all but can someone just clarify that:

a) The 2006 Scion HU (non-ipod) will drop straight into a 2004 4runner SE harness with no mods, like the 04 and 05 HUs can;

b) The 2006 Scion HU has the text greeting feature that can also be changed (like in the 2005 HU) despite the lack of the critical A and M buttons.

c) Dismantling the dashboard fascia to change out the HU is fairly straightforward and everything goes back as normal without new rattles and squeaks.

Thanks.

just installed the scion HU, has anyone noticed the highs are better but the lows are not as strong as the stock hu the 4runner came with. by the way, I installed the 06 scion HU with the aux output and it works great with the aux that comes with the 06 4runner.

I also installed an 06 scion hu in an 05 4runner. I think the highs are better, but for me, the biggest difference is in the lows. If i need some heavy bass, i can certainly get it with this hu.

Just installed the 06 Scion HU also. Love the SSP, it really bumps up the XM from my Roady XT. Also installed the PIE TOY03-AUX but am getting a high pitch whine when the XM is routed through it. I may have to ground the RCA adapter.

I have a question for you guys. What is the AUX button for on the HU? I had to hook up my XM using the PIE in the CD changer slot in the back of the unit and use the CD button to access the XM. What is up with that? Also, how do you actually hook up satellite radio to use the SAT button on the unit? I wish the center knob was a little longer for my fat fingers.

Other than that the system sounds and looks great.

Yea last week when i installed my amp i lost my welcome screen and looked for a while on how to get it back to say toyota instead of scion. i finally found it on scionlife and revised it a little to post here so it would be easier from now on, and i never got around to it. But now weve got it here.

I tried some searches and this tread is pretty long, so I thought I would ask to confirm my understanding..

Are there preamp outs on the Scion unit to hook up a 4 channel external amp (ie, 2 sets of preamp outputs)?, or is an some adapter needed in order to install a 4 channel amp? I saw posts where amps were connected, but I was not sure how many set of preamp outputs the scion units have, if any.

I have an 03 4runner...., will the 04 to 06 scion hu's, 6 disk changer fit.

Thanks

Thanks Eddie.., so will that adapter provide a hook up for a 2 channel amp, for say the front speakers, or 4 channels for a 4 channel amp for the front and rear speakers..

So it looks like you plug it in to the existing hook ups or plugs, and then plug these in the back of the head unit?

I just reread your post and you mentioned they make a 4 channel hook up, so again, I assume that would accomodate a 4 channel amp. The write up on the converter on ebay mentions hook up of a amp for a sub, will this include an amp for the speakers as well?

thanks again.

The harness they sent me plugs into the back of the HU and into the stock wiring harness, but also has 2 RCA outputs and a turn-on wire. The idea behind this one is to add an amp that powers a sub, but lets the factory speakers work normally. I don't see why you couldn't connect it to an amp that powers two front speakers, but I would ask the seller on Ebay. They responded to my questions quickly.
I was thinking about getting the 4-RCA version that would hook up to an amp that would power the 4 door speakers and use a preamp passthrough on the 4 channel to get the signal to a sub amp. I thought it was interesting that the seller said that the 4-RCA version bypasses the HU's built in amplifier. This is what he wrote ( I was thinking about getting a sub/amp now and 4 channel amp later):
"the sub plug 4 will baypass the amp section of the stock deck once it is installed (reverses once removed ) .. so if you are going to get an amp now and one later ... i would use a 4channl amp and this /./ wire the front to the front 2 channels and the rear sub to the rear channels"

I decided to just get a sub and amp for now. I should have it up and working by this weekend.

Hope this helps.

Wiring diagram for steering wheel controls

Does anyone have the pinout/wiring diagram for the steering wheel control jack on the back of the T1804 unit? I was thinking of making a switch unit to interface to head.

Man, you think like I do!
I am watching for that box everyday... :bouncy:

The seller was pretty lazy about responding to my questions. I am guessing that he was grumpy because similar H/Us were going for almost twice as much! I found his right when it was listed and it had the "Buy It Now" at $150. It is crazy how this new model has depressed the prices of the previous single-knob H/U. I saw one new in the box close at $23 plus shipping!

I have seen them listed under the "Pioneer" category, under CD Players and "Parts and Accessories\Other. You have to search well. There is a new 3-knob unit on right now with a first bid of $9.99

04-06 Scion xb/xa/tC Sat/Ipod ready/Stock radio Item number: 4643723986

It came, I saw, I installed!!!

I am so impressed with what a huge improvement I got for my $150 and I am SO GRATEFUL to all who posted so much, especially that one web page on removing the Nav Unit.

Picture below with new greeting ;):

I was lucky and got an owner's manual with mine.

Enjoy the radio, it is a great upgrade!

sub plug

I am selling my 'sub plug' harness that was made for the Scion radio in the classifieds that makes it very easy to add 2 RCA's and turn-on wire if anyone is interested.

is the stock 2006 4runner radio as bad as the previous years? is the upgrade as noticeable for this year as well? Can the scion head unit be used and retain the functionality of the aux miniport in the 06 4runner?

I want to know the same thing...most importantly I want to upgrade to something that will charge/make use of HU controls/steering wheel controls when using my iPod. (The 'line in' port in my 2006 doesn't allow for charging and when a charger is plugged in at the same time, you inherit alternator whine into the system)

I've seen the adaptors to be used with the 06' OEM HU and their $200.00...if this is a REAL upgrade from the 2006 4Runner HU, then it seems to be the obvious choice.

Damn this was a long thread! LOL
