Scion T1808 installed

No issues at all with reception on FM frequency. AM? That still exists? (haha, just kidding). I didn't try AM. The main reason I got the stereo was to control and charge my iPod from the HU. I don't listen to the radio at all, like once a year maybe. I have 4000 songs on my iPod and can't stand the radio, so I'll never need the FM/AM receiver. From what I read on this forum, the second plug antenna is to help boost the range, but I've not had any issues so far.

The no charging issues will be fixed soon. Bought an adapter off amazon.com that will charge it ($15). See page 1 of this thread for the link. The iPod cable I purchased is what all the other scion stereos are using.

Well, Krup, youve inspired me to take the leap.

Ive bought the 6' SCION SC12235 cord with the charger attachment, and im ebaying for a t1808.

Im a little timid over dismantling the interior plastic (from the console all the way up to the dash....im SOOO SURE i'll break a clip and be outside the 4runner, banging my head on the tarmac, screaming to myself, "stupid! stupid! STUPID!").

I'll be sure to update once i get it all in.

It's going into my wife's 03, as i just found that mine (the 08) has the AUX 1/8 MIDI plug in the console! Im not a huge music guy, but it has the 6 cd changer and as long as I can get the Boston sports radio stations, im good.

I felt the same way too the first time I took apart the dash . I promise you it is not that hard and it all comes apart exactly like the instructions mentioned above. The HVAC required the hardest "yank". The big trim piece I still hate to do after 4 times of having the dash apart. Go slow and stop and try another place if it feels like you are pulling too hard or it is going to break.

Exactly! go slow and you'll have no troubles. I'm glad your on the hunt for a T1808, your wife is going to love the way it sounds.

Oh, and I like micro brews so if you're ever in Bellingham, WA we could go to Boundry Bay (local brew pub) and you can buy me that beer :cheers:

BigRed, I haven't seen one but I'm sure you could have one made up. Or if you don't like the "Scion" logo, you can take some nail polish remover and gently rub it off. I read that on a thread somewhere in here. Just haven't had a chance to do that yet...I doesn't bother me at the moment but I'm sure I'll end up taking it off in the near future.

Don't know if this may help but just installed the Alpine Scion HU.

-As for the antenna cables, rather than taping up the smaller antenna, I bought a Y adapter through Amazon (Metra - 40-UV43 male to two female antenna adapter cable) and a Micro Tip Adapter (Scosche Mda-B Micro/Delco Antenna Adapter Tip) to upsize the smaller antenna cable in order to fit into the Y adapter and reception has been just as good as the stock HU.

-The AUX still works.

I'm still trying to find an iPod cable that will charge my iPod without that adapter.

I've seen it down in someone elses post, you may want to look at putting in a rubber gromet or something to keep crumbs or otherthings from getting down into the center console. Other people have run it into the storage bin with similar success. I know when I get around to upgrading, i'll get enough cable to be able to feed it in and out of the holder, so its easier to hold and see than trying to look at it tethered to the ashtray while driving.

For what it's worth with the ipod adaptor there really is no need to hold or even see the ipod because you can control and view it from the radio / steering wheel. Therefor having it in the tray at the bottom of the center stack is ideal. Easy access and hidden from view. I put mine there and I love it. But I never take my ipod out of the truck except to load more music. Just my $.02.

Id love to have a clean-cut finished product like this one:

The other end of the cable is a male USB and 3.5 mm connection, so it can be fed through a smaller hole. The hole I cut is awful because I didn't have a bit larger than 1/2". A 3/4" or 1" diameter drilled hole should work out well. You could then finish it off with a smaller inside diameter rubber grommet. Or just drill in an inconspicuous location so you'll never see it anyway!
