scoop hood on a limited? don't kill me for this

ok.. i know there are so many of you die-hards out here who will probably die in laughter for me saying this BUT..oh well i guess.

Here's my deal.. I want to buy a black 01 or 02 T4R... I want the sport but i think I only really want that for the LOOK of the scoop hood (i know, what a poser). Because i also really want Leather seats (but not uncomfortable 3rd party seating).

SO my question is.. what if I buy an 02 SR5, and just change out that hood for a scoop hood.. would this even WORK?

Thoughts? All i care about is (other than it being a strong, clean engine) leather and scoop hood.. id love some fog lights/etc eventually but these are my two biggies.

You are in luck. The hood scoop is only there for looks anyway. It does absolutely nothing, so swap at will!
 
Is this also the case for the 07 Sport? Does the Scooped hood not really serve any purpose. I never popped the hood of the 07 Sport and compared it to the 07 SR5 or Limited.

I ran into the same problem as you... I wanted leather, painted bumpers and trim like the limiteds have, painted running boards, 4x4, and hood scoop. Basically a limited with a hood scoop. I was set on hood scoop, leather, and 4x4, unfortunately all 3 of those were unseen in my area. I found hood scoop, leather, 2x4, or hood scoop, cloth, and 4x4. I ended up buying a limited and buying a factory hood with the scoop and having it put on. Mine is a 00'.
 
I think a lot of people would rather have the scoop than just a reg. hood. I'm either going to buy the CF hood from Burtman or just swap out with a junked Sport.
 
I have Hood scoop envy as well. I just cant justify the cost for it not serving a purpose other than looks.
I know eventually it will bother me enough that I will cave in.
 
Lund cowls

Has anyone attempted to add a Lund Hood cowl or scoop and then cut out the hood under the cowl to allow heat to escape?

I think the after-market leather is pretty sweet. My family's '04 4Runner has Classic Soft Trim leather which, IMHO, is way softer than the factory stuff. Buttery like a Lexus! My buddy just had his Honda done with Katzkin. Again, nice and all under $1,200 including the doors and labor. I've considered doing this to my '02 Sport Edition, but am just too lazy (and cheap) to get around to it.

So I guess my point is, if you really want a scooped 4Runner, rather than get a Limited and make it look like a Sport Edition, just get the Sport Edition to begin with. Then you can have the interior re-done with leather. May save you time and headaches instead of hunting down a scoop, having it installed, making sure the paint matches and everything lines up, changing your bumpers (from your other post), etc.

I wrestled with these exact same questions and wants before I bought mine. I wanted the luxury, but needed that scoop!

would it be a good deal to purchase a stick able hood scoop for $8 off ebay..the problem is that it's black and i have a green 97. And where would i get it painted to match my color..would yall do that deal?
 
I'm not so sure I agree with getting a sport edition and then doing the other stuff that you want to it. Getting a sport edition and upgrading all the exterior trim and bumpers to match a limited is waaaaay more expensive than just buying a limited with exactly what you want with the exception of a scoop.

Toyota dealers can order you the hood with the scoop and its the same price as a regular hood with the exception of about $125 for the inserts. but the hood itself is the same price, which is about $500. Finding a good painter isn't hard either and from what I know they have programs that can match the paint after they enter a few numbers found on the car.

As I said in my earlier post I wanted a 4runner with all the exterior painted...bumpers, running boards, trim, etc... 4x4 and leather. Try finding that in a sport edition. You'll find it with leather and 2x4 or with cloth and 4x4, and it still doesn't quite match a limited. Buying the limited and getting a hood with scoop will run you around 8-900, which is much cheaper than redoing the entire inside of the car and sacraficing the looks of a limited.
 
Or you could get lucky and find someone with the same paint color that wants to trade for a non-scoop. My wife really is turned off by the scoop. I like it. It was the first thing she said when she saw the Sport. Had to settle with the Limited.

I'm happy, in the end it's still a 4R.
 
The trim isn't painted... its the black plastic which just happens to match the color of the car.

Its also in PA, and I was looking in the NC area and 4x4, leather, and scoop was a no-go in NC.

i heard someone mention that the colors of the paint might be off even if they are the SAME paint #'s, because of fading that may have happened to the paint job on the 4R...I am getting black . .. anyone else have thoughts or input on THIS issue?

If there is a paint difference, just take the hood back off and have it paint matched. If that's what you really want, you'll do what it takes to make it work.
