In 2005 the company I worked at for 10 years went out of business. My commute went from 12 miles each way to 50 miles each way into Manhattan working the 4pm to midnight shift at my new job. The miles were piling up quick & I knew I wanted to keep this truck forever so I started looking at cars. Toyota was at the top of my list & this old Cadillac guy ended up in a 2001 Silver Corolla Sport. These pics are from outside my old apartment in Brentwood, LI.

I added rain guards, bumper guards, Euro-lights & one of the most kick-ass stereo's you ever heard. Pioneer Premier HU & CD changer, Infinity Reference 6.5's & 6x9's, JL Audio 6 Channel amp with a JL 12 W2 sub in the trunk. The 12" sub was too big for the car so I took the JL 10" W0 out of the 4Runner & put it in the Corolla. I'm not into that trunk vibrating bullshit. The 12" W2 is still rocking the 4Runner to this day.
It was a good car for commuting to work & squeezing into small parking spots in the city. It never gave me a problem for the 2 years I drove it. In March of 2008 I slid on some black ice & drove it into a ditch by my new house where I live now.
The insurance company totaled it & I got back $5800. Not bad considering I paid 7G's & put 30,000 miles on it in 2 years.

If I'm getting tired of old pics you all must be too. I can add any old pics I find later in the thread. I really want to get into part 2 of this trucks life.
Not much happened to the truck between 2006 & 2010 except age. I kept up on the maintenance but things started to go & my personal life had some challenges too.

To keep it short & sweet, life got crazy & the truck wasn't getting the attention it deserved. I wanted to buy a house because I was tired of my little one bedroom apartment but the rent was cheap & I was able to save for a down payment after living there for 10 years. My Mom & dog were both dying of old age & I couldn't move anywhere or even house hunt. I was also working a ton of hours & had a long commute. After Mom & dog died I started house hunting every weekend in Orange County which is a 2hr drive from Suffolk County, Long Island. The property taxes on L.I. are insane & it's not worth it. It's flat, boring & crowded & I would never move back. Change is good.
I know I said no more old pics but I just found this one! I swear! This is the first time I looked at the house I bought. Brand new build on 3/4 acre. I looked at many others but kept coming back to this one.

I closed on the house in Dec of 2006. As you can see the house was a clean slate & wasn't even finished yet in these pics. Over the next few years I was putting money into the interior & the landscaping & the 4Runner wasn't getting much love. But if you notice I was driving the 4runner to go house hunting instead of the Corolla which got much better mpg's...Hmmmmmm????? :becky:

I'm not getting tired of the old pics at all. Every time I see them I'm somewhat appalled at the fact that I didn't take as many pics of my 4runner as I should have. I didn't even get a photo of it when I picked it up new.
I have a measly collection of photos of my 4Runner considering I've had it for 16 years. Hats off to you for such a great chronology!
PS: Of course being a native from the same area and knowing exactly where each photo is taken from is pretty nostalgic. I enjoy the reminiscing.

I grew up in Belchertown, just a few towns over and still live in the area. I wish I was paying attention when you let those Trail Edition wheels go, I have been on the hunt for a set. Let me know when you're in the area again, I have a new-to-me 1999 that needs to see some trails.

Good I'm glad! I'm gonna post more oldies! I know the pics of the new house weren't that impressive. It's a rectangle on a dirt lot! LOL I found pics of the truck with the new deck & landscaping where it's actually starting to look like a home.
You have to post those old pics, I want to see them.
Thanks man, I think I was just getting bored posting pics & not mods & the cold weather wasn't letting me work on the truck. Yea, the Corolla was just back & forth to work. In my mind thinking back I felt like I was neglecting the 4Runner but looking at the old pics I was driving it everywhere on the weekends & still loving it.

I bought the TYC's off Amazon & they have been great so far. They're the only aftermarket's I recommend to people.
I have a question for you. What was it like banging Sarah Connor?

Thank You, they come on new FJ's & Trail Edition 4Runner's & bold right on. I have the longer & stronger ARP Wheel studs with 1.5" spacers because I wanted to push the wheels out but you don't need them.
Very cool, I'll let you know when I'm coming up to visit my Sis. What trails are near you? The TE wheels are always popping up in the classifieds.

Cool thread. Nice change from coilovers and bmc's. lol Love what you've done with the rig and the memories. Reminds me of my old party mobile, the low rider, a 67 chevy Impala with a 287. Got crunched between two pickups otherwise probably would still running. Lots of ganja in that cockpit. lol.
