Update on Valvetrain tick after seafoam in the oil?? Ive got the same issue and it drives me insane. Here soon Im gonna pop the valve covers off and see what I got going on.

You only see smoking when you add Seafoam in the vacuum line and see much better results. Did you use a funnel? Maybe some of it didn't go straight down the gas tube. If you have never noticed this upon fill ups I wouldn't worry much about it.

Are there any scientific comparisons done with this stuff? before/after pictures? Hard to take this stuff seriously without having real evidence.

Yeah its all over YouTube. It's been around for years apparently. Idk I just tried to make this truck run better. I'm beginning to think that the fuel pressure regulator is going out from what I've read so far but again, I don't really have a clue. I just know that it doesn't have the right amount of power for a v6 should and it gobbles up gas like a freakin tank. Hard to start hot or cold. I basically hold the key down 2 or 3 seconds or try once and let off and then try again and tap my gas pedal to get it going good. I hear a belt squeal only at startup. Every time almost

Never got around to doing it, sadly. I will one of these days and shall update!
I blew my head gasket on an old toyota corolla after doing this. Just one person's experience, but I would personally never do it again. If the engine is really that badly gunked up take it apart and clean it.
*edit*: sucking seafoam through the intake I mean. Pouring it in your gas tank or a little in your oil is probably a better idea that letting your engine suck up a bunch of fluid.

These pictures were EXACTLY what I needed to get this done on my V8. I've got about another 500 miles or so before my oil change. I'll probably wait until its time, seafoam it, then oil change. Just wanted to say thanks for the accurate photo documentary.
To anyone looking for hard evidence, this is one of those things where it's so cheap and you hear some guys talking about it, why not give it a try? Just my $0.02 on the matter.

I didn't get anything after the procedure, tons of smoke and all but that's it. Milage is the same if not worse.

How did the Seafoam blow your head gasket?
I've read through the thread and read posts that people had heard of negative effects from this, or the recent post that it happened to their Corrola (sorry for your loss by the way), but has anyone had any personal experience of negative effects to your own 4runner? I've got an '03 V8 with 235k miles. I've owned it since '09 with ~95k miles, and except for a couple of years of irresponsible upkeep I regularly change the oil. Wanting to run some Seafoam for increased longevity. If it does happen to help mpg...added bonus.

It didn't help mpg at all. I sprayed after throttle body at high idle so I don't think that mass air flow was coated with it.
Right now mine is showing 13,5L per 100km. Before I had 11L/100km. Unless someone can explain the cause of this I can't say it's a good thing to do. Maybe it did something good that I don't see now I'm not sure.

After doing the procedure (letting a vac inlet suck seafoam into intake manifold) and burning off all the smoke everything seemed fine. The next day when I went to start it, it had some trouble but eventually started with starter fluid. After trying to figure out the hard starting problem I found oil residue in the coolant and coolant in the oil. Enough coolant was getting in the cylinders to soak the spark plugs. It was an old 4AGE engine with a lot of miles (hence thinking seafoam might help it out) but compression tests showed the engine was ok when I bought it a few months before the seafoam ordeal.
That sucks.

Does anyone know what this filter is? My rig has just broke 200K miles, Im sure its never been replaced, Id like to do that..

Just finished reading this entire thread, and I’m both intrigued, and a bit scared at the same time. I have around 130k on my v8 so I’m not sure if I might dislodge too much as some have pointed out, doing more harm than good with regard to tolerances. I’ve heard of this stuff for years, but always thought of it as one of those “snake oil” type products that do nothing more than loosen the money and suck it from your wallet. My truck runs very well now, so I’m definitely scared to “fix” something that isn’t broken...

This on both counts. To point one, is there real evidence (scientifically authenticated) that it does any good? To point two, is the potential reward worth the risk of fouling up a perfectly good truck? My personal take is no and no.
