Seat Belt Warning Signal - Turn It Off

I picked up my LE about a month ago, told them I wanted it turned off. They said they couldn't do that, Toyota won't let them for liability reasons. I then pointed out in the owners guide saying the dealer can turn it off. After that they made me sign the work order stating I wanted it off and did it. The light still comes on, and will flash every once and a while. That's all the warning I need.

THIS! Not only do I find the chime annoying, I completely agree with everything you said here. I wear my seat belt all the time, but like you said, there are some occasions where leaving it off is totally warranted.

My dealer was able to turn it off when I purchased it. I'm a strong believer in wearing a seat belt but there are times the chime is annoying.

My tech tried to say it was a "safety concern" until I spotted his motorcycle helmet and reminded him that his motorcycle doesn't have a seat belt, let alone an f'ing chime for it.
 
I carry a heavy rolling briefcase in my passenger seat that sets off the stupid seatbelt alarm. I would also like to shut off the open drivers door alarm chime. I will be buying the techstream thingy.
 
did you find a solution to this problem for the 2016? i have a 2016 4-Runner and tried what posts here have said to do (set to ODO, turn off, turn on, press reset, insert seatbelt) but to no avail. i have not found any other leads.

Are you talking about turning off the warning ding? You need the Toyota techstream software to shut it off.

I have a 2016 4R, and an Android tablet with bluetooth, and disabled the seatbelt chimes on my 2016 using the following approach:

1. Purchased this bluetooth ODBII dongle that plugs into your vehicle:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NLQAHS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

2. Paid $10 for the following Carista app by installing it on my Android tablet, and then connecting to the dongle (above) using bluetooth.

The Carista app will also work with iOS devices, but looks like you'd need to buy a different ODBII dongle than the one above. There are numerous settings that you can set on your 4R using Carista. I don't recall all of them.

BTW, other apps can also use the ODBII dongle, such as "Torque", etc... Check them out if you're interested.

I have Carista and I don't remember seeing the chime off function. However that was last March maybe they have updated I will have to look again.
 
I'm on iOS but I can't imagine the app is much different. I can't check the app without pairing to the dongle and I can't do that until this evening but there are options to disable the seat belt chime for each (driver and passenger).
