Seat Heater Install

I have had mine in about 2 years but I noticed about a month ago, the driver's seat getting really hot, the switch had no effect at all so I had to pull the fuse to shut it off.

I tried swapping the switches but had the same result. I can only assume the control module is bad, so I guess I have to order a new one.

Are your seats factory heated or after market?
Would you recommend anyone with basic mechanical knowledge taking on this venture?
Are they instructions pretty self explanatory?

Great thread. I'm getting ready to this for the misses (and, ok, myself too).

A couple up-to-date confirmations / questions:
1) Is this the right kit from Amazon (previous links out of date) that people are using that has the dial switches THAT FIT the factory knockouts in the center console?

2) I believe from my research and earlier posts in this thread that the Rostra rotary dial switches DO NOT fit the factory knockouts in the console. Is that correct? (Rostra FAQ indicate the switch dimensions are 1" x 2" which is too big.)

Can't really tell, the description is vague, but from the crappy picture it does look like the switches I have. But that's a weak confirmation at best. At least with Amazon, if you don't wait too long you can pretty much return anything if it doesn't fit right.

The heaters and the wiring harnesses are nothing special and any generic heaters will work. There are several places you can buy just switches that fit the knock outs. But they all escape me at the moment. Slee Off Road is one....

What I got from reading a bunch of stuff here is that the DUAL rotary dial switch does not fit--it's too wide. But the single rotary dial switches should be okay.

I used the seat heater kit off eBay. It was 89.00 out the door, shipped fast. I have completed the middle row and front passenger seat. I have all the wires ran but have not wired them up yet. Plan to do that tomorrow taking off work Friday with a snow storm due to hit N MS. Will post pictures on Sunday when complete.

I just finished installing the kit that I linked in my previous post. The switches fit perfectly in the factory knockouts. The seats seem to heat up just fine.

It was a straightforward installation and a good addition for only 70 bucks or so.

Now, the Katzkin leather interior I installed along with it was a whole nuther project. I'm super stoked about the results and will likely post pictures later.

Seat heater Install is complete (added leather as well) and wiring was very straight forward and easy to complete due to the folks from this thread, thanks! Yes, seat heaters in NE Mississippi, if it gets below 60 here that's COLD!! The only painful part of the install is the hog rings and if I had bought a decent pair of cable pliers (dikes) would not have been so bad! The kit from eBay came with the wires wrapped, it took me longer to cut the wrapping than the entire wiring process. The switches fit and work great!

Add me to the club today. Heated seats installed and working fine. My advice to anyone doing this. Buy a set of Hogring Pliers and replacement Hogrings. Just cut the old ones off and replace them with new ones. It will save you a ton of time. Getting the old rings off and reusing them took the most time of the installation.

Best and easiest advice would be to cut the old hog-rings and use zip ties as replacements. Well documented all over the 'net.

I'm halfway thru mine. Piece of cake. The only thing I can add to this thread is a comment about hog rings. Grab a sturdy pair of snips and grab the backside(not where the ends meet up). The snips won't cut the rings but they dig in. Once you have a good grip simple twist them and the hog rings will unwind themselves. Use zip ties for reassembly. I did the passenger seat in an hour from unbolt to reinstall.
