I searched all over and also posted on another thread but I can't find the answer. Does anybody know from experience if I will only lose the seat airbag by replacing my front seats (Corbeau Baja XRS)or will I also have an airbag warning light to go with it? My guess is I will have a light in the dash, but I figure I would ask anyway.

I should have just disconnected the seats while the truck was still under warranty to test it out. Then I could have just taken it to Toyota an had them reset it while I played dumb. I guess the next question is,can we reset airbag lights with a scan tool, or is toyota the only one that can reset them?

If your new seats don't have a weight sensor that produces the same signals that the ECU is looking for and can be calibrated to you stand a good chance of loosing the front passenger seat air bag and possible the side curtain air bags.
I removed all my seats to install sound deadening. I then made the mistake of re-connecting the battery while they were removed which reset the front passenger seat weight sensor ECU. The results were that with no one in the seat the air bag warning light on the dash was always on. When some one would sit in the seat the SRS disabled indicator came on. This implies the side curtain air bags are also disabled. I had to have the dealer re-calibrate the front seat weight sensor to fix it.

The factory seats themselves have an airbags in the bolsters for side impacts so you will definitely lose them and will throw the airbag warning light on the dash without it hooked up. Also there are weight sensors in the passenger seats to arm the bag to protect kids or anorexic adults that I think is set to around 80 lbs or so that triggers the other airbag light on the right/center dash.
If anyone who ever changed their seat covers knows the airbags are held in the outside bolsters under cloth by baseball like stitches of fine thread that are made to come loose when the bag blows and the airbag specific factory seat covers are not held down tight on that side.
Not sure why you were getting the light as I've had my seats out at least 20 times and have even rode around for days at a time without the pass. seat even in the truck.Plugged it back in and never a problem and I've had them out with battery connected and disconnected.I even took the long roof side airbag and knee bags out lately and never had a problem.
I was wiring my ham radio base under the front pass seat where the factory xm radio box used to be and just left the seat out for a week til I was finished.Feels like driving a bus but the stereo sounds so much better with it out!lol I have them out so much that I don't even bother to put those plastic beauty covers back on as one of them feckers bit my finger and drew blood one time. .
I haven't seen anything in Techstream for recalibrating the airbag sensors ,just running test on them. The only thing I can think of is that there are 3 connectors under the seats and the yellow one is the airbag connector.It has to be pushed in real hard as it is like a 2 stage connector with 2 clicks locking it in. If you don't have it fully connected it will throw the light even though it looks like it's connected.Ask me how I know!

I can't say why you didn't have to re-cal your seat weight sensor ECO. In my case the first thing I quadruple checked were the connectors under the seat. I also now that they weren't the issue since even pressing down on the seat would cause the SRS disabled indicator to turn on. Which means the sensor was 'talking' to the ECU. However, the repair manual says that the weight sensor needs to be re-calibrated after the seat has been re-installed.

Alright....made me go look you dirty crook!I checked it out since I was testing to make sure my airbags were reinstalled right with Techstream anyways.Learned something new today!
There is a zero point calibration for the "Occupant Detection" in Techstream as the other one I tried before just checked all the airbags and not just the pass seat. It however is for when replacing the seat or seat sensor or throwing codes which explains why 99% of us never had to do it for just pulling the seat out. No idea what happened with yours and the only one I've heard of and a bunch of us have pulled that seat already.

Tells you to place a 66lb weight on the seat and where I exited as I didn't want to mess mine up.Same 66lb required as the Sensitivity check I ran and had to press down on the seat 66lbs worth as it registered the weight and when it's within +/- 7 lbs you pressed next.Mines good!Customizing feature was disabled btw as I tried it too
Well that sucks, cause I'm really over my seats. I don't mind losing the side impact bags in the seats, but I would be really annoyed at an airbag warning light in the dash all the time.

Simply put if there is a fault in the airbag system (i.e. the light is on) the airbag system does not function as a safety precaution.
