Hi guys. I live in Kirkland WA (on Finn Hill). My AISIN timing belt kit with WP and thermostat just arrived yesterday and am planning to do the work out on my driveway as soon as the weather clears. Never done this before so I am planning on taking it slow, doing a little bit after work each day and maybe stretching it to a couple of days type of project. Would appreciate any help if I get stuck on something, if anyone has knowledge/experience and has time to stop by. Six pack standing by in the fridge just in case.


While at it I am also doing the coolant flush, trans fluid flush and trans cooler install.

It took my friend and I about six hours to do the timing belt, new radiator, and coolant flush. Make sure to drain the coolant and removed the fan, shroud, and radiator to get some more space in there. The toughest part for us was getting the new tensioner in there. Just take your time and you should be fine and make sure to read up on how to do the job. There are some good write ups on this site.

Thanks for the tips. I have done a lot of reading and looked at really helpful Youtube videos. They're really all just nuts and bolts right. But in my experience working on my cars there's always that unexpected something, mostly not having the right tool. So over the years, I have accumulated a lot of tools that I only used once.

Ehahn84, I am also planning on a 2" lift for my 4Runner. Curious if you've decided on which lift kit you are getting for your rig? Got the part numbers for the coils and shocks?

Hi. I have my parts kit ready to do my timing belt and water pump, but I have never done it before. I'd be happy to join you and figure it out. If you want to assist me with mine after yours is done, that would be cool, but not a requirement. Also, my schedule is flexible right now. I'm currently in the process of replacing my valve cover gaskets and thoroughly cleaning my intake manifold and intake ports. Kinda dragging my feet just a little bit

*ETA: I have put together (from this site) an extensive list of torque specs for the 5VZ-FE in a Word format, with the torque specs used in the timing belt change highlighted in red. It could help us/you. I'll send it to you if you'd like.

Hey ShooterMcGavin. Man that would be awesome. I sure appreciate any support. Based on the weather forecast for this weekend, I think I will start taking things apart tomorrow and to get this started. I will pm you with my address. My schedule is wide oipen this weekend so hopefully I will get it done quickly, and then help you with your timing belt when you're ready to start it.

Please do send me the send me the Word format torque specs. Hopefully, my torque wrench isn't too bulky to fit in the tight spaces around the 5VZ-FE.

Ehahn84, I am also planning on a 2" lift for my 4Runner. Curious if you've decided on which lift kit you are getting for your rig? Got the part numbers for the coils and shocks?

I decided on moog 99 tall coils and KYN monomax shocks with 1.5 and 1 inch day star spacers. Gotta baby in the house so I gotta go super budget. If you want specific part #s shoot me a PM.
