Hello Ladies and Gents,

I was wondering if anyone would happen to know what might have happened to the steel platform in the rear of Seattle Mike's truck. I have these photos and would love to have one fabbed up but really need the dimensions. I have a fabrication guy I have talked to and they are a little bit too commercial to help me out. They have expressed that it might take 4-5 hours just to measure it up and then as many to build the rack. Needing my truck for a week....ridiculous!! Anywho, please let me know if anyone knows about this rack, or who manufactured it, or any information at all.

I miss him too. He was an awesome person and a character that really told his mind to everyone. Funny thing, I agreed with him every time.

No help in that section of the thread. I am really looking for some dimensions on the steel rack that straddled the factory sliding tray. My only other option is a better fab guy here in Dallas.

Anyone else, Java? Any ideas?

(putting on my thinking cap) .. you have points of reference in that picture that you can measure on your own truck and then infer the full dimensions of the rack... may take you an hour or so doing some math, but I'm sure more people here will appreciate it when you post the dimensions *grin*

i'm sure 1E can toss you the Sheldon-speak explanation and formulas to cover for the perspective, but you should be able to make that work.

Thinking out loud on this.....


I'm not sure I "get" the "why" of this frame. I know Mike originally had a much bigger drawer set up planned...that pretty much encompassed the entire truck rear compartment. To me that would warrant a sub frame, bolted to the 4 locations of the tie downs...now..that being said....I don't know if I would trust something that size and weight held down by 4 size 10 metric bolts. I know he wanted to incorporate the slide out as a table, so that makes some sense.

But after further review, and if I had an opportunity to do it all over....I'd remove the entire slide (TE model) and get down to the bare bones of the floor of the truck (see Harper7's, and I believe Cantman's builds). Then I'd start building from there...that would help dropping the drawers down several inches..(or adding several inches of depth to the drawers themselves) which would make access to the fridge easier, and you could also add a pull out table in the drawer design itself. I'd probably secure it through the floor right to the frame..to ensure you wouldn't "eat it" in an accident. Don't mean to hijack or derail...just throwing out there what comes to mind.

Let me know if you need a Google Sketch up of it to take to a fab guy...you know I'd do it for ya' Johnny if you didn't live so damn far away...

Pat, you truly are a fantastic guy and I will take you up on the drawing. I purchased the ARB drawers just liek the set that Jonessey purchased. I don't really want to rip every thing up and I liek the functionality and use of the sliding cargo tray as a table. So if you can help me out it would be great. I reached out to Java again and he totally ignores all of my PM's. I sent him several back a year or so ago to see if he would just measure or hook me up with whoever built it for Mike.

If you can pout something together it would be great, and I will certainly take care of your Scotch needs....
