In all honesty, this is a bit silly. I have talked to these guys before too. They will just tell you that it is in the possession of the escrow company and they won't let anyone see it unless they pay first.
You could ask him how you can use Ebay VPP on a non ebay purchase (because you can't). He will probably tell you there is a way. Ask him to list it on ebay so that you can buy it there and get the VPP, because you called ebay and they told you there is no way to get the VPP any other way.
Eventually his lie will break down and he will stop responding to your e-mails.
The other interesting thing would be to see if you could get some personal information about him, but I doubt you will be able to. It's their game, and they usually know how to play it and how to recognize someone messing with them.

Yep if you can find out an IP address you can find out where he is located.
IP Address Locator - Enter an IP address to find its location - Lookup Country Region City etc
Then call the police in that town and let them know he is committing a scam and fraud. Intent to defraud, steal, etc.

I told him that my brother and his family was up there on spring break vacation and he would come by with cash and pay for it, then drive it back.I also asked for his phone number so my brother could call him..I bet that never happens...

glad to see I was not mistaken in my first impression-
damn scammers, thinking they could pull one over on us Colorado 4wheeling community....

It's sort of funny when you think about it.
These people prey on others stupidity or thinking that maybe, just maybe, they found a really good deal.
Of course the old saying "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" never is outdated.
My 17 year old kid got caught up in one of these scams a year back without my knowledge and the dude had him real close to sending him a cashiers check for $1000 for a "deposit" on his dream car for sale for 25% of it's KBB.
Luckily I got wind, but these people are scum and prey on the naitivity of people who are less experienced in lifes affairs.
Personally, I think this type of crap should = 3 years in prison when convicted. That would nip this in the bud real quick (same for identity theft).

Sometimes amazing $hit does happen. I placed a want ad in our local little shopper. The next day I got a call from a little old lady that wanted to sell me a 2000 SR5 4x4 for 3k. Not expecting much, I drove the 40 miles to take a look. Sitting there was a beautiful 2000 SR5 4x4 auto in perfect condition in and out. I mean...perfect! It had it all too. Tow pack., power everything, new tires, new timing belt, clear yellow oil, full tank of gas. The only thing it didn't have was the E locker, but it DID have a nice TRD
supercharger that works great. I couldn't believe it had sat for months and nobody bought it. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it except the battery was dead from sitting so long. I jumped it and it fired right up. It purred like it had just been ran. There was not a drop of oil under it. It had 113k miles on it. That was last July. It still runs great with no real probs yet. I did have a knock sensor go out, but other than that, perfect! Even the color was what I wanted. wtf? Oh well.....I took it.
