Sensibility of using a "Toyotas Techstream" CD/Adapter kit from Chinese eBay sellers
Given the price difference between the two, and the fact that the seller's in question (I won't link to specific auctions) have good feedback, their product is very tempting (35$ vs. 1400$). Can anyone give advise as to whether or not this is secure (from a not-mucking-up-your-vehicle standpoint), and what the repercussions might be if something were damaged as a result of using the Chinese knock-off?
Further, can anyone say if what these people are selling is a pirated copy, or a legitimate copy, or...? What precisely is it that they're selling? My understanding of techstream is that it is a "subscription service", but the eBay sellers mentioned above seem to be offering it on a CD.
To restate the question: Is there a consensus among people who have used this software (from the eBay sellers), and does using it pose a security issue for a vehicle such that damage may result?
EDIT: To just add a bit to this: techstream would cost you the price of an adapter (400-500$) plus 55$ for two day access, if you chose to do a two day access. I take that to mean you'd have to pay the 55$ again every time you decided to use it again, after that two day window expired.
