I am looking to replace the stock Entune stereo with an aftermarket head unit from Alpine. Has anyone replaced their radio and retained their factory satellite antenna?

I’ve searched online and it’s a mixed bag of folks who’ve had success with various Toyota’s, however I haven’t seen anyone confirm this is doable in the 4Runner. Idatalink Maestro manufactures an adapter, however Crutchfield told me I couldn’t do this, therefore I’d like a second opinion if anyone can confirm.

I actually like the stock entune unit and the way it blends With the dash. Are you planning a full stereo upgrade?

I am considering the Alpine ILX-F309. It’s a floating display that actually looks pretty good installed. I would prefer to keep the factory radio but I can’t take it any longer. It’s the worst factory radio I think I’ve ever heard. I added a sub and an amp last year, however the bass is terrible because the factory unit cuts out the low frequency. After countless searches online, calls to local car stereo shops, and others, I’ve given up. Some folks believe the newer amps with digital signal processing and factory equalization will fix this, however I suspect they are wrong because the unit virtually eliminates low end bass.

For now, I’m looking to install the head unit and Idatalink Maestro and go from there. The speakers are pretty bad , therefore I may upgrade later depending on how the HU change performs.

Yes. Maestro has the adapter you need to retain stock GPS and satellite antenna. However, your aftermarket head unit must also have an XM receiver. If it’s not built-in the head unit itself, you can get an external one. I installed a Kenwood 9903s head unit with an add on XM receiver/tuner. Used stock GPS and satellite antenna. Crutchfield will tell you exactly what you need. Installation is time consuming and a little tricky, but totally doable DIY.

Whatever radio you chose, make surer it is SiriusXM ready and buy the separate tuner for it.
