She failed me!

Well, I have no idea what is wrong with my 94 yet, but all I know is that I heard a pretty good crack of a sound driving down the highway a couple miles from home. Drive it on home and pull up to the house and I have smoke coming from under the hood. Turned it off and it smells like coolant and I can hear dripping at the back of the engine. Do failed headgaskets make a crack/loud popping noise when they go? Maybe a stupid question. It did not overheat and the temp. gauge didn't even climb. No white tailpipe smoke. Maybe I just lost a hose? There is coolant on the back of the engine and front of the trans. Not tons, but a pretty good soaking. Am going to check hoses when it all cools down and I can actually touch things back there.

Well ran it for a little bit and combed over the hoses in the back and I can't see an obvious culprit. My rad was not low at all, so it must be a small leak. I can see where its ending up and its running down the passengers side, rear of the engine. Shouldn't it be obvious if a hose is damaged?

I still can't find the leak, but its hitting the crossover pipe on the passenger's side and creating steam/smoke. I left the vehicle running good twenty minutes and it didn't pool up on the trans again. I may be naive but wouldn't a cracked block create much more catastrophic symptoms than a slow leak?
