I solved this problem by getting a manual with my 3rd gen. The wife can't borrow what she can't drive.

I just put my steering wheel fully tilted upwards when I get out and my wife hates it. She has no idea how to change the angle nor does she know its even possible so she constantly says "your car is so uncomfortable to drive" thus making it like Kryptonite to her. We just turned in our lease, BMW 550i, so we need to get another vehicle except we have 2 twin boys now so another SUV is on the horizon. She's a car girl, hates SUV's, so were trying to figure out what will work best. I'm pushing for a Landcruiser or a Sequoia but she's fighting it hard.

We have the opposite situation in our family. The brand new 4-runner is the family/wife's vehicle and I have my Bronco, yet I find myself taking the T4R every chance I get and leaving the Bronco in the driveway. This creates a problem because my wife is scared to death to drive my Bronco, but it works out for me anyway. She's always fussing at me about taking "her" car and all that. I just smile and say what's mine is yours and what's yours is mine. I can't help it if you don't like the Bronco. ��

My wife drives a 07 CRV that' was in immaculate condition when we bought it years and years ago. Well all the commutes to college and work added a bunch of miles on it. It's starting to show...if I didn't detail it she would never clean it. She claims she's going to drive my BLACK TRD PRO to work when it arrives. I LAUGHED AT HER FACE. I'm going to lift it so high off the ground she wouldn't even want to drive it. I paid for it and whatever is in the garage is mine so don't touch it! Lol :guitar3::guitar3::guitar3:

Yes OP, I to share your angst. I feel vulnerable whenever I'm at home and my 4Runner isn't.

My fiancée has a Nissan Altima and basically just uses it for back and forth to work. 4Runner does everything else.

Having said that, I have 2 options next spring. I either buy the soon to be Mrs a Lexus GX or perhaps another 4Runner Limited or, hand over the keys to my beautiful shoreline blue to my fiancée and I buy something more sensible like a gently used Lexus ES (very steep discounts on 2 year old models with 20-30k miles). I really don't want to get a car but it just seems silly to have 2 behemoths in the driveway.

We just got her a new vehicle last week and she loves it. We tried the LEXUS RS, the Acura MDX, etc. She picked the CR-V Touring AWD. It is nice, she loves it, end of story. Happy wife, happy life.

those new lexus es 350 are super nice if you just need an A to B car in comfort.

It doesn't really bother me. My wife is a very good driver, and I get a sense of satisifaction knowing she enjoys the 4Runner as much as I do.

When it's time to purchase a second vehicle again (my wife takes the train to her office in Chicago) we will likely purchase a Carolla or something equivalent. Different tools for different jobs.

My brother-in-law is a freshman at Michigan State, and so we have been driving his 11' Jetta since freshman can't bring a car. Honestly I have been driving it more than the 4Runner... keeps miles off my truck, and gets 27 combined mpg.

Yes. Always a good idea! My wife chose the MDX but it was close with the Audi Q7... I secretly wanted the TDI... Oh well, her car is her baby and she leaves my trucks alone!

My wife has a late model RX350 - so she really doesn't have any desire to drive my 4runner. They're damn near the same thing from a run to the store perspective. She wants to trade if for a new sedan of some sort- in that case I might have a little more desire to drive it more often. Probably an IS350.


It's when she wants to drive my FJ40 that I get nervous.

Ha this is funny. My fiance had a Jeep Wrangler and I had an FJ, we both traded in the vehicles at the same time for a 4Runner and a Camry. Figured we only needed one SUV especially since she's a teacher and doesn't go to work when it snows anyways, and it's nice to have something that gets good gas mileage. Well the Jeep was her dream car and she misses it all the time so I let her take the 4Runner whenever I'm not at work, I'm nice like that

Sounds familiar. We have an RX350 and 4runner also. My wife SHOULD be nervous when I take it out. One of these days I'm going to go put it through its paces offroad and see how it does. I'm really curious to see how it handles some mild offroading.

My wife has only driven my 4runner a couple of times. She is afraid because she knows how anal I am (My 4runner still looks new inside and out). Although one of the few times she has driven it, she managed to get the only door ding it has ever seen in the last 1.5 years...

I keep asking my wife to take her ride and make it an overland vehicle...lol. She won't have any of that...but the V8 rides so damn nice.

Wife mention that she almost always gets comments when she drives my truck - like she's a star or something - whereas I just get random looks. Must be more than just the truck.
